The Amazing Work of Krista Huot

June 16, 2009

Krista Huot is a 28 years old very talented artist that lives in Montreal - Canada. She grew up in a small forestry area in northern British Columbia and there was when she started her drawings and also that was where she found some kind of mystical inspiration. Krista studied 2 years of fine arts and art history at Thompson Rivers University and after that went to Animation School at Capilano College where she says she found exactly what she wanted, which was something challenging, intense and focused on developing a solid foundation of technical skills. Krista already worked with illustration and digital paintings but she really loves working in acrylic on birch because they are solid, and acrylic dries quickly so she can build up many layers of colors.

I found Krista's work during my researches for our Daily Inspiration post and I just fell in love by it. Her paintings are just stunning!! The colors, the lines, the expressions of the characters, the atmosphere of the scene... all that makes us feel we are in another dimension, a fairy tale maybe. :)

As the quote from her myspace profile:

Merrily, merrily, merrily, merrily...life is but a dream.

Let me say that I had a hard time picking the images to show here since I loved all of them... so I really wish you enjoy the ones we will feature here! ;)

She's somewhat talented but every one of these looks the same. I'm not that impressed. Nice job, I suppose?

Seeds of Terror: How Heroin Is Bankrolling the Taliban and al Qaeda is the hot new book on how our tax money is being wasted in Afghanistan. A lot of careful reporting establishes that the opium/heroin trade finances angry Muslims, to the tune of 30 percent of Afghanistan’s GDP. This is not a surprising result

When we went looking for an apartment here a couple years ago, we had two primary considerations in addition to the usual ones: walking distance from a Red Line subway stop, and fiber-based Internet access. The latter is easy to spot if you know what to look for, starting with too many wires on the

Very sensitive drawings, nice!

Anitras06/16/2009

She gives the same expression to all of her characters, no matter what situation they are facing. Nice subjects and colors but empty performance.

I do like her art, but I don't think it is amazing. I find it more cute than anything.

Is it me or do alot of artists tend draw women and girls this way?

Jennifer Farley06/17/2009

At first, I liked the style, and I thought the eyes really made her subjects stand out, but every one of the following paintings have the same face...and all those huge eyes started creeping me out!! Oh well, I'm going to check her site out anyway. :)

As previously noted, I've been playing with XtraDB a bit at work. Over a week ago I decided to test compression on one of our larger tables and it took a bit longer than I expected. (root@db_server) [db_name]> ALTER TABLE http://www.westlake.net table_name \ ROW_FORMAT=COMPRESSED KEY_BLOCK_SIZE=4; Query OK, 825994826 rows affected (8 days 14 hours 23 min 47.08 sec) Records: 825994826 Duplicates: 0 Warnings: 0 Zoiks! It's too bad we couldn't use all the cores on the machine for the ALTER TABLE,...

Hi all
A couple months back I got a Samsung NC10 Netbook. I had been on the fence for a long time, trying to decide among the an Eee PC from Asus, the MSI Wind, and the Samsung NC10. Right about the time I was going to finally do it, the ASUS Eee PC 1000HE was announced. I read a lot of reviews from http://www.wardlaw.net folks who'd bought those netbooks and eventually settled on the NC10. The main deciding factors, in order, were:...

The gym at Eberhart Elementary School is bright and spacious — with high ceilings, several basketball hoops, even http://www.grodecki.net a large, colorful climbing wall.

This looks interesting but the links don't seem http://www.mcmillan.com to be working.

I think this may be the first time I’m listed first on anything alphabetical. The S in my surname usually puts me near the back http://www.roest.com of the aphabetical bus; but with Weinberger and Zittrain’s help, I’m listed first. Cool. I also love the early-60s design and typeface. That title “So How’s Utopia Working Out For Ya?”

If you go onto her site you'll see that she also paints different kinds of creatures... the paintings chosen for this blog article just show a certain aspect of her work, and look to be from just 3 of her shows (each show seems to follow its own theme)

Also, if you look at other artists who show in galleries you will see that they all have a distinct style that is instantly recognizable, which is what makes the paintings collectible. I've often seen other gallery artists with recognizable styles criticized for this same thing. It isn't the same as illustration or design where you're trying to show all of the different things under the sun you're capable of painting. Every industry is different and asks for different things, so understand that first, and if this painter's style isn't what you are looking for, find one you like and start collecting him or her. That's the beauty of it.

paintings of ..... HUOT's characters are HOT, I really like the design and you've really made these your own. Take no notice of the critics above and paint what you enjoy painting.
