The kind of project I do enjoy featuring on ABDZ, it's a combination of art direction and photography. We are taking a closer look at the work of Boston-based art director Jeremy Haunschild. The approach is simple but kindly efficient especially when it's mixed with Interior Design. Commissioned by Puma, let's enjoy also the Behind-the-Scenes process for this project. For PUMA's 2017 Global teamsport initiative, I designed the visual system and concept that would carry throughout the extensive international diaspora of executions required to support the teamsport business category. I art directed the photography of the key athletes that appeared in the campaign as well as the overall layout and design of the typography and all aspects of post-production. 2047 Apologue is a show by the Chinese director and visionary–Zhang Yimou. Presented on last June at the National Centre for the Performing Arts (NCPA) in Beijing. We follow the work from Radugadesign about their involvement in motion and set design. I love how the concepts comes to live following the incredible vision and direction from Zhang Yimou. Check out the video as well, it's well worth it. Radugadesign is a studio that creates lots of goodness from videomapping, motion design, interactive installations, VR, digital interiors and more. Based in Moscow, Russian Federation,, you should definitely follow their work on Behance. The director extends the traditional forms of stage performances, combining Chinese folk art with modern technology. The show consisted of eight performances, which were prepared by 20 international and local teams. The Radugadesign studio in cooperation with WHITEvoid (Germany), the director of the London Theater of Contemporary Ballet Rose Alice and CPG-Concept (Lisa Keegan) developed a visual accompaniment for the kinetic dance performance "Weaving Machine". This one concluded the show. In each of the performances, the emphasis was focused on the fact that technology and humans are merged together, but nothing is eternal and technology can leave us. Let's start off the Week with this Art Direction & Motion project by UK-based Cape & Monocle. Entitled: Zanzibar (Love Is Love), it's a music video that tells the story of a robot (last of his kind) scattering places in goal to find parts to rebuild his partner. You are taken into this beautiful melody as you are right away charmed by the visuals and intriguing concept makes you watch till the end of the music video. Frame by frame is just a pleasure to discover. Sit back and give it a watch. Cape & Monocle is a team that consists of Ben & Laura located in the UK. They specialized their work into Art Direction and Creative Direction. From big to smaller projects, they will also work their skills into 3d and 2d key art, style frames, animation for TV, animated music videos, social media content and more. When we made Kam’s first music video for ‘Zermatt’ it was made up of 40 or 50 small vignettes – our goal was eventually to expand some of them into full narrative music videos for his future releases. For Zanzibar, the second release from his project, Kam was keen on doing something with the clip that featured a mysterious robot from the first video. We came up with the concept of a robot being the last thing left in a world that had been destroyed by its own creations. Before everything was wiped out, the robots partner had been attacked and destroyed. Zanzibar opens with him waking up after the devastation has stopped. The short film and video art Epic Fail is a really cool motion design project created and shared by Greg Barth on his Behance profile. It is an avant-garde essay that questions how we perceive truth, information and politics, seen through the dual lenses of our real and virtual identities. Moved by the political events that shook 2016, the film is inspired by Jean Paul Sartre’s “Nausea”; or how we can develop visual embodiments of our emotions as a catharsis on how to deal with reality. In a time where post-truth news divides and conservative politics fails to lure in young voters, a extraordinary vote for world peace has dramatic consequences. Savee. is a new service that helps you to save and organize your images and inspiration. It works like FFFound and Designspiration in a way but has a different visual style, more bold for lack of better word. I saw this project and thought it had a really beautiful web design and style, then I saw that it was created and shared by Andre do Amaral I was even happier. Andre is a Brazilian designer based in the Bay Area and currently working at Netflix. He is from my home state and of course that gets the right to be featured here on Abduzeedo. Web design Savee it is the best project I've done through my career. It's a fun and intense side project that still requires a lot of my time, but I love it. I believe that detail really matters. So I designed and built with few other talented minds the simplest tool for users to save images from any website. Noelia Lozano is a Madrid-based graphic designer and art director that specializes her work into paper craft, CGI and 3D. For her latest project, she had to put those skills in action to create a set design for Adobe at the prestigious 2017 OFFF edition. Video Adobe at OFFF 2017 branding imagery, I was reach to design the visual Imagery campaign for Adobe at OFFF 2017 creative festival in Barcelona at Museo del Disseny. OFFF festival has become one of the most popular creative and design event across Europe, with more than 4000 assistants for all over the world. The main task was to develop a bold visual imagery to be used for the campaign on different applications as well as design the stands for Adobe at the festival, two main different areas where the participants to the event could explore new senses with Adobe, becoming their experience at the festival unique and memorable. The references that DR Digital Agency, the agency in charge of the art direction, used for the style and art direction was a colorful, tactile and bold graphic… kind of memphis style. An Interaction Design and Art Direction for Refugee Nation by Justin Au. I don't know if you guys remember at the last Olympics, we've witnessed a team of refugee athletes compete in the games. A first in the history and since they had no official "home" to call their own, no anthem and no flag. A flag of the "Refugee Nation," created by Syrian refugee was orange and black, to represent the life vests the athletes wore as they set off in boats for a better life. It's quite a beautiful story, I would definitely the full project via his Behance. Justin Au a designer and an art director working at Ogilvy & Mather New York. Currently based in Brooklyn, you should definitely follow his Behance where you'll find work for IBM, 36 days of type and more. Video Bringing the world together to support Refugees. The flag of the "Refugee Nation," created by Syrian refugee Yara Said, was orange and black, to represent the life vests the athletes wore as they set off in boats for a better life. Another Syrian refugee, composer Moutaz Arian, created a wordless anthem to convey a universal message of love and hope. The Refugee Flag has since become an international symbol of welcome and inclusion. It is hoisted all over the world by different people, organizations, and even countries as a sign of solidarity in support of refugees. I was tasked with designing a web experience that captured and explained the idea behind the flag and all that it stands, to visitors from all over the world who may have stumbled upon its colors. I have not seen Ghost in the Shell yet, but it's definitely on the list of movies I want to see despite the not so good reviews. One of the reasons is the look and feel of the movie. The post modern, futuristic look full of neons and crazy stuff. For this post we share a little bit of of the art direction behind it from a post shared by Ash Thorp and Christoffer Bjerre on their Behance pages. The sequences and images in the reel represent a compilation of work created for the Ghost in the Shell live action film, which includes everything from animation tests to final assets implemented in the film. SOLOGRAMS Early on in the film’s development, I met with Rupert to discuss some of the creative direction. He expressed his desire to paint the city with neon lights in a new form that he coined as “Solograms”, which are solid holograms. It is something in the realm of a particle system of light that can be moved and augmented in Z space. I loved the idea and instantly got to work building out concepts and ideas. Below you will see a mix of various style frames, concepts, and final production assets that made it into the film. These concepts then went into post production where Chris Bjerre and I animated and created an asset library for Rupert to paint his city with. - Ash Thorp Art Direction POSTERS Maciej and I pitched a few poster renditions for the marketing of the film. Although the posters were not eventually commissioned, we really enjoyed connecting and building them out regardless. The tagline of this campaign is: The more you connect, the less you connect. There’s a powerful message through the lines of this campaign tagline and you can easily relate with what it is all about. We’ve been through debates where technology grows at such a fast pace that the consumer grows to be even more demanding but at what point? I love the fact that the art direction gives you a clear understanding and a reflection to a sad reality of a present day. I love technology but I do agree that we have to keep a balance in our lives. A great thought from the work from Donghai Liu for Ogilvy Beijing. As a designer, I am a frequent user of Behance. It’s a beautiful platform that featured some of the best artists, designers and illustrators out there. One thing that annoys me though is the design hasn’t changed much in the last few years. For example, those gradient buttons are hitting me hard! Let’s take a look at the work of Nora Park who decided to take the platform for an overhaul concept. Overall, I really enjoyed her interaction design and direction for Behance, too not keen on the interactions but in the “ensemble”; it’s a lovely concept! This concept is the work of Nora Park who is a freelance art director based in Los Angeles, California. She has a background in UI/UX, graphic design, illustration, fine art and more. This is my attempt at translating the website into a desktop application, one that takes advantage of the platform by providing a richer, more seamless and customizeable experience.
Internet.org by Facebook is a art direction and digital art project shared by our favorite studio, ARS Thanea. We posted about them and featured their work so many times, actually every time they post something new because their work is quite inspiring. This time we are sharing the project they shared on their Behance profile for the Internet.org for Facebook. It's an advertising campaign, but we tend to focus on the technical aspects of the digital art and art direction for this post. Each person that comes online has the potential to create and share knowledge that improves the internet for all. That’s why Internet.org by Facebook is exploring ways to get the unconnected half of the world online. To date, Internet.org has brought more than 19 million people in 38 countries online through a range of services — like installing wireless hotspots, beaming internet from the sky and creating platforms that enable data-free access. How could the internet be considered the World Wide Web if only half of the world’s population is connected? We created a series of print and digital ads with real cut-in-half objects to tell the story of an incomplete internet and its potential.
