MINUS-8 is a industrial design and product design project share by Brett Lovelady on his Behance profile. There are so many things to love about this project and the fact it's from 2 years ago is even more interesting for me. The watch brand was created by Astro Studios designed to express the things that make the West Coast so special: Free thought, pure form, and always living on the leading edge of America. The outcome is a truly beautiful watch with a mix of style and function well balanced out. Another important thing for me is that as the fad for smartwatches are sort of passing or settling we see that the classic wristwatch has a place in the market, even if it's just for style. The progressive, layered construction makes MINUS-8 as future-focused in its aesthetic as it is in its ethos. The MINUS-8’s brand is inspired by californias eight-hour distance from Greenwich Mean Time. We believe America’s West Coast culture gives us the freedom to be innovators and change-agents. The progressive, layered construction makes MINUS-8 as future-focused in its aesthetic as it is in its ethos. Product Lineup Since launching MINUS-8 in 2014, they’ve created 5 full lines of watches as well as a collection with another native San Francisco apparel brand, NICE Collective. With a new brutalist aesthetic, established Japanese movements, space age details, and best-in-class materials, MINUS-8 represents a new standard within the category. Product design process About Brett Lovelady Brett Lovelady is a designer, communicator and angst ridden creative capitalist. After receiving his BFA in Design at BYU, he escaped to Silicon Valley to design the future. After his successful run as Vice President of Design at Lunar and Frog respectively, he sought absolute power (aka responsibility) and unbridled creative license. This led him to the founding of Astro Studios in 1994, and it’s been a giant fun-filled waterslide of bringing innovative products to market, turning venturous sparks into fireballs, and becoming a global design voice. Replay is a product design project created and shared by Gruev Vladimir. In a nutshell it's a concept project for a music app, as Gruev said, inspired by Spotify, VK, Apple Music and Discogs. There are quite a few interesting ideas and visually you can see clearly the influence of Apple's visual language, especially the shadows and the player screen. That said, it looks a solid exercise where he went all the way designing for desktop and mobile as well as thinking about beyond product design but also branding. Of course it is hard to evaluate a design like that without testing but we always encourage and support this type of effort. Everything that helps us become better at what we do deserves to be shared. Replay finds new music and sends it to your ears. One day I’ve made a shot with player interface. Here I’ve developed its idea into a full product. Inspired by Spotify, VK, Apple Music and Discogs. Product design Gruev Vladimir is a web designer from Ukraine, passionate about simplicity, usability and everything product design. We started Abduzeedo with the mission of sharing everything that inspires us. We focus heavily on digital design but more and more we try to feature product design. When I say product design I am trying to say, real physical products. Perhaps the best term should be industrial design. We are also reviewing more products/gadgets. With that in mind we will start sharing some of the devices that are in our wishlists or that we have already gotten. For this post I will share some simple, yet awesome, products that can give remote control of your house. From doorbell with cameras, to wifi enabled washer and dryer, there's a plethora of products that can make your place feel automated. The best thing is that the prices of this products are also going down. Some are still a dream for me, but outlets and lights that can be controlled from my phone and personal assistants are quite awesome. In addition to that, for me they also give a nice style because they are great examples of good product design. Product design: house automation

We are sharing this cool and yet useful Powerpack called Nomad where there’s one feature that could change it all or not but it’s quite awesome to share. You’ll be able to find it anywhere through your phone. You will say that how you can lose a powerpack? Well I did during my travel to Berlin last year, it’s quite a useful tool to have in your gear especially when you wanna go out all day without resting for recharging battery. We are sharing this product design by the mighty folks from STEL. It’s cool to see designers takes things that we take for granted and push the envelope. STEL is a design consultancy agency that provides solutions for various clients from big to small. Based in Santa Barbara, they focus their work into Industrial Design, Mechanical Engineering, Prototyping, Graphic Design, and Branding Strategy. Using the industry’s latest and greatest charging technology, PowerPack incorporates high-density Panasonic li-ion batteries and USB-C ports to ensure reliability, longevity, and forward compatibility. Pushing the envelope with FASTcharge technology and 3.0A-compatible ports to charge your devices even more rapidly, we also made sure to include a legacy USB-A output that’s compatible with all your older cables. With a shockproof, dual-layer construction and military-grade impact resistance, PowerPack is built to last – which is a good thing, because with a built-in Tile tracker to prevent you from ever losing it, you’ll have it for a while.
We would like to share this beautiful product design called: Fitbit Charge 2 that we’ll be reviewing on Abduzeedo and that will be online soon. For now, let’s take a closer look at the work of Dan Clifton and his design for the Fitbit Charge 2. I would like to mention that this product is gorgeous by its looks and it’s quite comfortable to wear. From the little dots from the bracelet and how easy it is to change your band. It’s quite a product and hope you will enjoy it too. Dan Clifton is a tremendous talented industrial designer based in San Francisco, USA. Dan has worked with the Fortune 100 companies and designed products that we interact and all use every day. I personally use the Fitbit Charge 2 and it's a beautiful product that makes you feel that you're in the future, from all the little details.
Connected is a product design and industrial design project shared by N U Y N on Behance. The product is an air purifier. The problem they are trying to solve is simple, most people close their windows and use air purification devices when fine dust density are serious. However, experts suggests to open the window for a while to ventilate the air indoor. Despite the suggestion, people still tend to shut their windows to prevent the air from coming. Another interest finding is that people also fail to check the lowest fine dust concentration during the day. That would be me :) N U Y N industrial design solution is quite beautiful and in addition to clear and purify the air it also displays a minimal and elegant look. The coolest thing for me is the way you can make it part of the window. Quite clever. "This device is an installation type air purification. Normally used as a general air purifier, but when needed, this device is installed in a window frame to filter outside air and let out the inside for cleaner air circulation." This industrial design project was shared by N U Y N , a industrial design student and part of Samsung Design Membership in Seoul, South Korea. With the new year at the door, comes the time for resolutions and ideas for what's ahead. For example, we were planning some renovations in the apartment and my partner stumbled across this really beautiful set of DIY paper polygon art for a room concept. After a little research, I've found the brand behind this product. It’s great to know that it’s a team of creatives behind this product design, can’t wait to order mine. VIU is a team of creatives that focus their work in branding, graphic, UX and product designs based in Seoul, South Korea. DIY paper craft product that everyone can enjoy the art at anywhere. Sketch iPad is a product design concept created an shared by Andrii Bondar on his Behance page. When I saw the post for a moment I thought it was real but then checking it was clear it was an exercise. That said, I still dream on seeing a tool like Sketch being ported to a tablet. Many times I tried to switch from a laptop to a tablet, however there’s no tools that would allow me to do my work. This concept highlights some good things but awesome some of the biggest challenges, in my opinion, the tap targets that the finger requires for accuracy. It’s an excellent exercise for sure, definitely worth checking it out. Andrii is a designer with 6 years experience in Branding/UI/UX sphere His primary skills: mobile application design, interface design, interface animation, user experience, graphic design, branding. I am a big fan of the brand Under Armour, in my opinion the quality of their clothing is just that good and I really do love how they innovate all the time with the performance of their material to enhance your workout or your everyday life. Also every time I looked at their latest imagery, I can’t help to notice the beautiful work from Mike Campau in collaboration with Christopher Massaro, Kristian Espinosa and 9bStudios (Yazan Malkosh, Omar Malkosh, Maram Stash, and Jessica Kim). What I do enjoy about their work is how detailed it is and you can’t almost tell the difference from a photograph. Images created for launch of Swacket for Under Armour... part sweatshirt, part jacket. Full Jackets were created CGI using Marvelous Designer, Clo 3d, and MODO. Macro details were shot in studio and post processed to match campaign. More Information: http://mikecampau.com.
World Surf League Apple TV app is a product design concept created and shared by Luis Vaz. If you are a fan of professional surf, like me, you watch all the events of the season via the WSL (World Surf League) app and cast to a TV. It would be wonderful having a proper TV app that could take advantage of the medium to provide a immersive experience. Luis did that with his concept project. Despite the theme being a bit too dark I love the elegant typography and the useful way he display the content. This is a concept test and WIP for a new WSL Apple TV App focused on improving the experience of WSL live stream and events info. The world wide interactive map is the core of the navigation and the events page are now upgraded with important and contextual information as well as the possibility of accessing all content from previous heats and events easily. Product design The World Surf League is a governing body for professional surfers and is dedicated to showcasing the world’s best talent in a variety of progressive formats. It was known as the Association of Surfing Professionals from 1983 to 2014. About the designer Luis Vaz is Owner and founder of Canvaz Design Studio. Niiiws (Newspaper aggregator) and Muchbeta (Saas company). Graduated in Advertising with a post-graduation on multimedia and a special focus on UI and UX gave me the possibility to have several apps on the market and featured by Apple. Recently launched a small surf research and development lab http://www.tailsandwhales.com For more information check out http://www.canvaz.io/
With the one of the hardest gifts to find in the market right now, we’ve been thrown back to the past with the NES Classic Edition. This little device is now adapted with our currently technology, we get to relive our early gaming experience. We would like to share this concept from Spencer Davis and Scott Schenone who had another concept in mind and it’s far more interesting than what’s actually on the market. They designed a beautiful product called: Nintendo Legends and I just loved everything about the design to the packaging. Hope you will enjoy it too! It’s not about the console it’s about the controller. A future vision for Nintendo gaming. Nintendo Legends UI from Scott Schenone on Vimeo. More Information via Behance.
Somehow with time, I began to be more and more fascinated with Industrial Design and Product Design. Taking something that we use everyday, rip it apart to discover what can be improved and create something entirely new and innovative are part of an accomplishment. For example, there is many kitchen hardware available, it’s not because you’ve been using tool for X amount of time would mean that is the best way to do it. The folks over Youmeus Design have been approached by the known brand Joseph Joseph to extend their brand into a new category, microwave cookware. They decided to research on the whole process on rice making. Let’s take a look and I need to mention that I like the idea of and I quote: a multi-purpose rice paddle that doubles up as both a lock for the lid and a carry handle. We were approached by Joseph Joseph to help them extend their brand into a new category, microwave cookware. We spent a lot of time talking to customers and took a deep dive into the world of microwave cooking, combining both consumer insight with ethnographic research. The microwave has hardly changed since the 60’s but our attitudes to food, cooking and how we work and live has. Our research identified that while 80 percent of households own a microwave, they are rarely used for anything beyond reheating leftovers, cooking ready-made meals and defrosting. Our aim was to try and change that perception with a product range that would go further and allow people to prepare meals or cook a wider range of food types using their microwave. We researched the whole process of rice making, which led to several new ideas and innovations for this rice and grain cooker, including the multi-purpose rice paddle that doubles up as both a lock for the lid and a carry handle. This resulted in a product that functions beautifully from packet to table. More Information via Behance.
With my own experience, I am starting to think that with time having a notebook is always useful for many cases and situations. Even though we all aware of the rise of technology and all the great and useful apps out there to ease up our process. I still feel compelled to go back to these roots for the beneficial of taking notes. Let’s take a closer look at the work from ACRE design, a studio located with Singapore, Singapore. Working mainly in art direction, branding and graphic design, what I love about their work is their creative thinking across all projects from the branding to the photography. Hope you will like it! French philosopher Gaston Bachelard once said, “The blank page gives us the right to dream.” As designers, we know that nothing holds more promise than a fresh canvas, or a beautiful new page. We also know that having the right notebook can make a world of difference in the creative process – so we decided to create our own. Stack is an exploration of functional beauty, and a quiet celebration of colour and texture. The notebook’s sheets feature four subtle shades of peach-pink, which are set against a stately combination of silver endpapers and a textured navy blue cover. There are four kinds of pages: ruled, dotted, gridded, and blank, and they come together to lend themselves to helping you make sense of your thoughts – whatever they may be, and whatever shape they may take. As you may have heard, we are celebrating something special on Abduzeedo, before we get to that we would like to share our congratulations to Mujjo for their 5th Anniversary. What is Mujjo? It’s a brand that has been crafting leather goods from premium quality materials. In their words, their guiding principle is that we design to our own taste – if we don’t love it and feel proud to use it. For the big celebration, Mujjo has made a limited edition wooden case for your Macbook (13 in) that you can get your hands on. Made by hand in Greece, the material used is an American Walnut veneer taken through a very careful process. Seeing the process in the images below, you can see how this case has been through several steps and the final result is just as innovative. Celebrating our 5th anniversary, we’ve collaborated to create something truly special: a limited edition Wooden Case for Macbook. We’ve produced a limited run of 50 cases – with 10 representing each year of Mujjo. More Information: http://www.mujjo.com.
With the technology capacity these days, it’s just amazing the things people can make and create. Some of them are reinventing the wheel of really simple things but somehow can enhance your daily life. We are taking a look at the work from Layer, a industrial design agency based in London, UK. They are leading their work across strategy, industrial design and UX/UI. And let’s take at their project about a minimal Apple Watch band called LABB (Loopless and Buckleless Band) that doesn’t come together like your typical watch band. In their words, it’s an injection-moulded strap and its design is based on an innovative, self-gripping fixing system in which the two halves of the strap intuitively connect along their entire surface, negating the need for additional buckles and loops. Would you wear one? I would intrigued to try one of these! LABB re-thinks a long-established typology to provide a new, simple and engaging approach to functionality for future generations of smart products.
