Inspiration: Fractal Art by MistyWisp
October 30, 2008
Im asking myself why so few women do graphic design? Most of the great artists are male. But this MistyWisp proofs: Women also kick asses in digital arts. Here's compilation of my favourite fractal-art-artworks from her.
She does not have a website but a nice and full packed Deviant-Accout

amazing work
OMG that is awesome... I will have to learn how to do that :)
Great post Aloa!

It's so cool. What software did she use? I like the flow and the color combination. Love it!
I love this kind of work - very emotive. I too would like to know her workflow here; is she making her own algorithms in an existing program like apophysis (the only fractal generator I know off hand, I'm sure there are others) or... something else? Whatever it is, it looks great!
I gotta learn fractals!!

A tutorial on Fractal?
Good question: what application do they use?
Use of fractals to make draws directly is just a small application for it.
There are several algorithms involving fractal's math in Computer Science.
In Computer Graphics there are many applications for fractals that the developers know and designers usually don't know.
The more important applications in CG are:
- texture synthesis;
- representation and rendering of "quasi-chaotic" structures;
- introduction of controlled and/or structured noise in systems;
- mimic complex nature structures.
There are math models to use fractals in rendering of human or landscape artifacts like hair, skin, fur, plants, ground, etc.

Fractal art started my transition into digital art which lead me to design (holds hand up as a female designer :D). I find it such a freeing and relaxing artform.
For anyone who would like to get started with fractal art I would recommend downloading a free program called Apophysis and looking up some tutorials on Deviant Art.
Inspiring works!
