Mysterious occurrences in the apartment…

“Would you like to shoot something?” our gracious host asked.
“Like what?” we replied.
“This teacup!” came his retort. A wife frowned.
“Perhaps not,” we countered.
Our host became distracted, then excited.
“There! A bird!”
He took aim.
[sound of rifle discharging]
“Missed!” he shouted, rueful.
Relief wafted over us. We like birds just as much as we like cats.
