The Perfect Office #38

May 24, 2010 from PauloGabriel's blog

We've seen some great gadgets and equipment for designers. So many cool stuff, that we could actually assemble infinite perfect office spaces! Every week we'll assemble a perfect office, and we'd like you to help us. What equipment would the perfect office have?

Not only gadgets and equipment, but also furniture, sound system, gaming stuff (for lunch time!). A designer is totally allowed to dream with the perfect office, and that's what we're gonna do here! Comment telling us your suggestions, or even better, you may tell us via twitter (mine and fabio's), using #abdz_ofc so we can check it. Alright? I hope you guys enjoy this brief selection. Cheers! ;)

Umberto & Luisa Coatracks

The Perfect Office #38

Soup Studio has designed these adorable hand-shaped coatracks, called Umberto and Luisa. The designer asks, “Why stick to conventions? Why don’t distort their own essence instead! That’s how a typical Italian rude gesture becomes form and function. Hatstand and hallstand. A sign becomes a purpose.” (at Design Milk)

Digit: Pixelated Rug

The Perfect Office #38

The graphic artist who designed this collection bases his work on the decomposition of colour through pixels, a technique that has been applied to the design of sofas, cushions, shirts… Now he embodies his special vision in these two rugs made from hand-knotted wool, one in vibrant colours, the other in more gentle tones. Both rugs have their source in photographic enlargement, giving the pieces a digital and technological look. Depending on the light or time of day, a glance captures the random union of one part of the 26 colours that make up the rug, always creating surprising groupings that are surprising to the eye; really shocking optical effects. Illy Y1 iperEspresso Machine

The Perfect Office #38

Get renowned Illy espresso in the comfort of your own home for less than the cost of a month's worth of trips to Starbucks with the Illy Y1 iperEspresso Machine ($125). The machine itself uses Illy's new iperEspresso capsule system, and features an aluminum casing with a tempered glass cup holder, a manual shut off to allow you to control the cup volume, a removable water tank, 19 bars of pump pressure, and the ability to make a piping hot shot of espresso in just seconds. Unless, of course, you enjoy paying $6 a day for your mochas. (at Uncrate)

In-Desk 4-Port USB Hub

The Perfect Office #38

Simple, but what a great idea! This 4-port USB hub from USB Geek replaces the plastic grommet that fits in those cord-corralling holes drilled in the tops of computer desks. It’s USB 2.0 and transfers files at speeds up to 480 Mbps. You can connect up to four high-, full-, or low-speed USB devices and still have room to route your cables. It apparently does not have an external power source. (at The Gadgeteer)

Cup holder, eh? I like cups. Who doesn’t? If you constantly find yourself in need of a 22 inch wide glass shelf with a built-in three-port USB hub and cup holder attachment, then today is your lucky day. The $50 UBoard is pitched as a “USB Multiboard For Your Keyboard & Office Life.” I don’t know about you, but I like to keep my keyboard life and my office life separate. It’s hard to do, but it’s important to me. (at Crunch Gear)

Gateway AIO ZX Series

The Perfect Office #38

All-in-one desktops are among the most popular desktop systems around today. The AIO machine is perfect for the person not wanting a laptop, but not wanting a full desktop that takes up lots of space either.

The Gateway One line of AIO machines has gained a couple new models including the AMD powered ZX4300-01e and the Intel powered ZX6900-01e. The ZX4300 is a 20-inch machine with an AMD Athlon II X2 235e dual-core CPU. It has ATI HD 4270 graphics and 4GB of DDR3 RAM. Storage is 640GB and the machine has a slot loading DVD drive. It will ship in June for $749.99. (at Geeky Gadgets)

Many people have been asking me how to create a nice, Apple-style UI in Pixelmator with bevels and letterpress effects. I have also received some inquiries about creating rounded corners. So, I created this tutorial to explain some efficient, helpful tips. Step 1 Open Pixelmator and create a new document. I used 1000×1000 pixels. Then, fill the background with grey. On the menu, select File>Stylize>Noise. Select 1 as the amount.
