Beautiful Houses: The Small House in Massachusetts

The idea in this series is to show beautiful and inspiring houses. Houses that are remarkable for its design, elegance, elements, concept or simply because they are beautiful. So if you like architecture, interior design and beautifully designed houses, you are at the right spot. Check out this week beautiful house and stay tuned for more... The small house is a project by Maryann Thompson Architects and is located in Berkshire County, Massachusetts, USA. Conceived as a modest one-room cabin, the house packs a kitchen, living, dining areas and two sleeping alcoves into just 750-sf; a 500-sf screened porch and sleeping loft create a thick threshold between inside and out. Wrapped in Western Red Cedar inside and out, the structure seems to recede into the landscape. From the outside, the house dialogs respectfully with the landscape. On the interior, the cedar frames and reinforces the woodland setting. After showcasing a lot of huge houses I decided to close the year with a small, cozy and beautiful cabin. A place that is a mix between a tree house and a peaceful fairy tale cabin. I wish all of you a great 2012! ;) Check out Maryann Thompson Architects website for further details about this and other projects. See you next time. We found this house at Freshome.

Beautiful Houses: Foster Loop in Washington

The idea in this series is to show beautiful and inspiring houses. Houses that are remarkable for its design, elegance, elements, concept or simply because they are beautiful. So if you like architecture, interior design and beautifully designed houses, you are at the right spot. Check out this week beautiful house and stay tuned for more... Th Foster Loop is a project by Balance Associates Architects. Located in Mazama, Washington, the site was enjoyed for many years as a campground by the family. The design minimizes impact to the environment by raising the residence off the ground with small concrete piers. The entry to the house is a slightly elevated walk that leads to the entry and stair. This entry opens up to a 1 1/2 story living space and kitchen which are anchored by a centrally located fireplace and the stair. This stair leads to the "tent like" bedrooms with low walls on the second floor. In my opinion, this house looks like an updated and super cool version of a tree house. Besides being a beautiful house, the idea of living among the trees is really interesting, I would live to try it out ;) Check out Balance Associates Architects website for further details about this and other projects. Beautiful Houses: Apartment Building in Luxembourg

This Apartment Building in Luxembourg is a project by Metaform Studio. The project presents itself as a unique object characterized by the juxtaposition of simple and pure volumes. In this construction the use of a unique material, black shiny extruded metal, gives it its monolithic and sculptural character. During the day, when the weather is nice, it delivers a warm and intense color, which, with its sharp corners, creates a strong contrast with the absorbing materials of the neighboring buildings (such as the plaster of the facades). During more bleak weather it merges with the color of the sky. At night, it is more discreet, as it allows itself to be illuminated by the city lights and the passing cars, and sometimes it illuminates the artist's artwork itself. Sliding panels allow the residents to be in relation with their environment. The mix of colorful murals and white walls and elements create a modern and interesting place. The apartment has a nice mix of art, colors and beauty, it's pure style. Definitely a great place to live. ;) Check out Metaform Studio website for further details about this and other projects. So if you like architecture, interior design and beautifully designed houses, you are at the right spot. Check out this week beautiful house and stay tuned for more... This week we present you the beautiful Glenbrook. Glenbrook is a project by David Jameson Architect. Two stone structures surround a glass pavilion within a wooded landscape in Bethesda, Maryland. Each space has an outdoor terrace or some special connection to the site while the roof of the glass pavilion folds beyond one’s cone of vision to create the feeling of being outside. So if you like architecture, interior design and beautifully designed houses, you are at the right spot. Check out this week beautiful house and stay tuned for more... This week we present you the beautiful La Concha. La Concha is a project by MOOARC, an architectural studio based in UK. La Concha is the result of a renovation of a 15th century barn. The old barn was transformed in a beautiful and elegant residence, where the former barn takes part as the heart of the home. On the lower level, kitchen and dining is position below a more formal living space up on a mezzanine level. A more relaxed living/play space is set at the front of the house, opening out to a terrace. At the rear, the sleeping block is linked to the living space via the entrance and vertical circulation. The house was conceived as a separate sleeping block linked to the barn via a glazed entrance piece allowing the mass of the original barn to breathe. The retained structure of the barn has been revealed, with the internal space for living expressed as a single volume. The house is super beautiful. Huge spaces, lots of glass and nicely picked materials form a modern and elegant house. Definitely a nice place to live ;) Check out MOOARC website for further details about this and other projects. Beautiful Houses: Rechter House in Tel Aviv

This week we present you the beautiful Rechter House. The Rechter House is a project by Pitsou Kedem Architects. The main idea behind the project was to conserve the spirit of the original design - open planning - and with this in mind, they redesigned the house’s external features and internal spaces. They preserved the horizontal grid and gave it extra intensity dividing it into two halves through the use of a spacious double space running its entire length. The choice of materials was done with great thought and included materials that are not considered “fashionable” so that they will not overpower the architecture and will help form a bridge between the two era’s; the first, the original one story design and the other the new, present day design. This house is simply wow. I loved the open plan, materials, floor and huge book shelve. I would definitely love to live in a place like this ;) Check out Pitsou Kedem Architects website for further details about this and other projects. See you next time. We found this house at Contemporist.
