Last week I posted some articles about typography and received quite a few emails asking me to create a tutorial on text effects. So I decided to play a bit with Photoshop to create a nice sort of 3D effect using a calligraphy font and a lot of Layer Styles. The effect is really simple and we will take a look at how to create patterns and light effects with Blend Modes.

The wallpaper of this week is an image created by Kevin Roodhorst, a 19-year-old Dutch digital artist studying graphic design in Amsterdam, with hopes of moving on to an advertising agency or into the world of freelancing when finished.
Kevin likes to experiment with different graphic effects on photographed subjects and in particular using Cinema 4D to make 3D objects, light effects and renders.

The book suggestion of this week is about colors, one of the most important skills for any designer. The book is called Color Design Workbook: A Real World Guide to Using Color in Graphic Design and it's not only a very useful book, it's a very well designed one.
