Inspiration: Vintage Packaging & Labels

We all love a good dose of inspiration, right? So thinking about that and remembering some pretty inspiring vintage/retro packages and labels I found at Lovely Package I decided to put this selection together. Some info: the word retro comes from the Latin prefix 'retro', meaning 'backwards' or 'in past times' (via Wikipedia), and we have to agree that the retro style was never so 'new' and trendy as it is today.

From packages to clothes, websites and furniture, the vintage/retro style is always around us, remembering us that for a long time design and style has been a big deal and also helping us learn and get some insights with 'past times' looks.

30 Beautiful & Inspiring Packages

I simply love beautiful packages! It's great that some companies give the proper care and attention on providing great packages for their products and consequently, their clients. I'm the kind of person that would try a new product because of its package. The style, color, shape, material... everything counts. And I'm very thankful that we have some very talented designers to deliver beautiful and inspiring packages to us.

There is one particular website about packaging that I love, which is Lovely Package. They have an amazing list of great packages, and most of the items from this selection came from it, so please check their site for tons of lovely packages. And if - like me - you really like to see some nice packaging design, you should visit the portfolio from each of these designers, they are great.

EVO Unique Campaigns and Packaging

EVO is a hair care brand that has a very unique style, personality and culture. Changing the 'more than the same' language and approach for its industry is the main speciality of EVO, and they are very successful with that. Their products, campaigns and packaging are cheek, elegant, simple, humorous and unique.

The copywriting developed by David Kalusy and Mash for the brand and its personality had such a good response that they decided to use it as the basis for the packaging, keeping it raw simple and letting the copy do all the talking. Mash also developed a unique range of used vintage cases as packages for lines of products. The whole visual line of EVO is extremely well designed and projected to catch the attention of the users exactly by its colors, humor and the great images from its campaigns. So, check them out and enjoy!

Packaging Design Tips and Inspiration

Packaging design is obviously very important when marketing your product. It's the first thing people see when walking into a store so you have to make sure that it stands out from the rest of the products on the shelf. Package design can make you desire something as benign as soap. Designers are especially more sensitive to package design. In the past I've bought something solely for the reason that I loved the packaging.

Tips

The people over at Go Media have written up a nice blog entry on basic packaging design tips with some nice examples. If you are interested in packaging design then you should check it out.

Inspiration

TheDieline.com is probably one of the best blogs strictly focusing on packaging design. It's a great place to get inspiration. Here are some examples from their site

Inspirational Original Product and Packaging Design

A good source of great packaging design I found on Flickr is SageMedia.
They make awesome designs, below a few examples:

Ofcourse the package isn't everything, the environment helps presenting.

Product Design

A regular sink can turn into a real experience with one of these, poor fish though, they will get flooded with water.
