The New Lance Armstrong Foundation Office

The new headquarters of the Lance Armstrong Foundation is a project to fill your eyes. A restoration made in a former warehouse in Texas, bringing new life to the building and the neighborhood of Austin.

Are already memorable all actions and movements made by the foundation, and it was only fair that people who work there helping others have a cute and cozy space. The industrial aspect mixed with wood everywhere created a modern and clean enviroment, and how the areas were distributed shows a certain informality and freedom, perhaps a characteristic of the foundation.

The renovated facility, project by Lake Flato Architects, provides office space, meeting rooms, dining facilities, an in-house gymnasium, open-air courtyard, and parking for the staff of 62. Future plans may call for adding a community-based cancer-support program to provide direct services to uninsured and underinsured East Austin residents. Achieved LEED Gold certification.

After 10 years of leasing space in a corporate office building, the Lance Armstrong Foundation found its permanent home in the 1950s Gulf Coast Paper Co. warehouse in East Austin, an underserved community in the process of revitalization. The design breathes new life and energy into both the building and neighborhood.

The Passive House by Karawitz Architecture

No, this is not a post of Beautiful Houses, could be because this house is beautiful, but I thought I could do a post about it with another goal, the constructive and sustainable differential of this house somewhat unusual.

Located in Bessancourt in France, it's a project by Karawitz Architecture . It reminds me those houses that used to draw as a child, a box with roof, and this is basically the design of Passive House. But when we analyze it goes a bit further, I can say is bold from the floor to the roof. The only concrete used in this work is the foundation and over it are structured large rigid wooden panels, covered with bamboo rods. The roof has a lot of blades to capture solar energy generation.

Other than that the interior part of a minimalist line, with only a few colors, a few furniture and of course a lot of raw wood covering the walls and ceilings. The solar orientation generate heat and direct light from one side while the other is closed to keep warm on cold days. Perhaps lacking a little color and life in some places, but for those who like simplicity is an amazing building.

The Cozy CouponCabin's Office

It's been awhile since I've posted about a cool office here, so this week I've selected one which is amazing to show you, is the CouponCabin's office in Chicago. A beautiful and elegant space.

The place has a rustic look and at the same time very elegant. This location was formerly a bank deposit, a four-story building built in 1909. So today, completely refurbished and modernized, is the headquarters of CouponCabin and its 50+ employees. This reform simply converts the spot, with brick walls, wood flooring and the contrast with white tables and a very clean and white lining, made the cozy look like a real technology company.

Wood in Web Design

Another day I was talking to a friend of my, and he told me that he would love to see more posts about web design here at Abduzeedo. When he told me that, I totally understood that we're kind of posting just about photography and illustration... and only Fabiano is doing something about web with his tutorials and links in the Best of the Week series. So today, web design it is! :D

When making a new site design, most of us try to figure out what kind of theme to go with... and there are plenty: space (lol), water, wood, colorish, glowing and shinning stuff, etc, etc. The list is just endless. One of my favorite design elements is wood! It's really great how you can manage to make a sweet design with wood background, static or not (I do prefer static). Anyways, here are some hand picked websites that got plenty of wood for your design needs.
