The West End Show' is an innovative gallery exhibition by Radim Malinic, a leading London graphic designer and illustrator. Malinic explores the magical and bustling part of the capital in a series of elaborately illustrated poster designs, bringing together classic old century design with the dazzling neon future of the 22nd century.

'I wanted to do something that was different, conceptual and intriguing - it’s a place that’s been very inspiring for me. It’s the heritage - the narrow streets, the buildings, the glitz and glamour. It’s got a heartbeat’, explains Malinic. He adds, ‘Once you look behind the history it’s got an enormous amount of legacy. People now take the area for its face value, it's a place to go shopping and getting annoyed by huge crowds at Leicester Square' explains Malinic.

Through a combination of bold typography, illustration and poetry, each piece tells the delicate story of classic design over-shadowed by the limitless offerings of this exciting city.
Malinic interprets his love for London by exploring the true characters of the real life musical that is London's West End. 'The West End Show' offers an inspiring touch of nostalgia for the frenetic capital resident.

The show, cleverly titled West End show, presents ten posters, each dedicated to one West End area, such as Soho, Covent Garden and Fitzrovia. The ornate, bold designs capture the vibrancy of the area, with a healthy smattering of the gaudy neon and glittering lights that festoon its streets.

The show is now open to public at Nancy Victor Gallery, London until March 2. Online store with limited edition prints and merchandise opens on March 3

Loish is a 26 year-old illustrator from Netherlands, and I was really fortunate to get to know her work back in 2007. I must say I've been in love with her work since then. I really appreciate illustrations of girls, and Loish's girls are definitely the ones I like the most, because they are beautiful characters, with so much color and life, with a introspective feel to them. The Signalnoise DRIVE posters will be printed on a Heidelberg press at 22? x 28? on Starbrite Velvet 80lb cover. Additionally, There will be a very small run of 24? x 36? oversized DRIVE posters available on semi-gloss poster stock. If you are looking at getting one of these ones on launch day I urge you to act fast as the numbers will be very low.

DRIVE poster launch: January 19, 2012, random time in the afternoon
22? x 28" posters, edition of 300: $50.00 + shipping

Battlefield 3 Poster Case Study

Case Study

1. SKETCH - Tablet made. Always helpful before you start drawing.

2. DRAWING - Made with Faber Castell 0,5mm mechanical pencil with Rotring 2B leads and Koh-i-Noor 2h pencil. When scanned I used Levels (Ctrl/Cmd + L) to clean it up than zoomed in to around 250% and used hard Brush ( B ) and white color 100% to clean all dirty areas.

3. BASE - I used Magic Wand ( W ) on the drawing layer to select white background area. Than selected inverse (Ctrl/Cmd + Shift + I) and used Select / Modify / Contract with 1px. Filled the selection with grey color on a new layer below the drawing( Multiply layer style ). Than zoomed in to 250% again and used tablet and hard brushed Eraser (E) and Brush (B) to polish up the edges of the grey selection.

4. MIDTONES - I used soft Brush (B) with low opacity( around 5% ) to create shadows on a separate layer and lights on another one to give the image more depth. Placed both new layers below the one with Multiplied DRAWING.

5. BLUE - I needed the selection of the whole main motive: I Select / Color Ranged ( Fuzziness 200 ) the white, than selected inverse and added the selection of the BASE. Saved it. Used it to create a Hue/Saturation Adjustment layer with blue colorize applied. Erased (E) with soft brush on the right side and at the bottom. Than I changed the background color to light grey.

6. FIRE - Graphic needed fire-like colors to look more like a Battlefield tribute, so I used the saved selection again, to apply Gradient (G) made lights on few more layers and played with various layer styles, like Hard Light and Overlay to get the best result. Used soft brush Eraser (E) where needed.

7. FINAL TOUCHES - I drew some extra lines, scanned them and repeated the process used on the main DRAWING. I than used Select / Color Range with Fizziness 200 to remove the white and leave only the lines. Placed the lines on top of all layers and filled them with the background light grey color. Finally added logos, title, quote and my signature.

Drive Poster by James White: 3 Posters Giveaway - Winners

As you have probably seen, James White designed another great movie poster. This time the poster is inspired by the movie Drive. If you haven't seen the movie yet, you should because it's one of the best movies of 2011, especially in terms of style. James was also generous enough and he is giving away 3 of these beauties to us.

I finally got a chance last week to sit down and watch Nicolas Winding Refn's film DRIVE, after big recommendations from Jason 'Hobo With a Shotgun' Eisener. Every so often a film comes out where midway through I think "Man, I'd love to design a poster for this thing" ... obviously, I muttered those words during DRIVE. I immediately got to it.

Shown above is the Signalnoise movie poster for DRIVE. Since this is an unofficial poster I created without approval from any of the production companies behind the film (yet?), the first print run will be incredibly small. I'm talking, like 20. Each poster will be hand-signed and numbered, to make it official. The poster stands at 24" x 36", official movie poster size.

I will be giving away 3 of these first run posters via this giveaway, right here. To enter is easy, just leave a comment in the comment box below with a valid email address. Simple as that. Just 1 comment per person please, no blanket coverage or I'll show up at your desk with a hammer. Contest will be open until Sunday evening, October 30. It's Halloween! We all have our ways of celebrating this holiday, some of us will do some trick-or-treating, attending costume parties, playing pranks, telling scary stories or like me watch some old horror movies. This is a showcase of retro horror posters of famous and not-so famous movies from the mid 30s until the late 80s. They are mostly illustrated but in my opinion are the most successful of expressing the emotions and triggering your imagination of fear.

After recently finding old science fiction magazines dating back from the 1980’s, it reignited my childhood memories of my curiosity of our solar system and of limitless imagination. I began researching heavily on NASA missions and came to the realization that the late 1950’s to mid-1970’s were exciting times for new discoveries, for real photographic images of planets and for limitless possibilities. This gave me the incentive to start a personal project based on what I knew very well as a child (creating simple ideas/drawings from imagination) and what I recently researched (the execution of early NASA missions in the infancy of space travel). We don't get to see much of religious design here at Abduzeedo, and maybe that's something we should feature more. There are tons of good religious design out there just waiting to be found, like Jim LePage's.

Jim emailed us about his work and it happened to be very interesting! As Jim reads the Bible, he designs posters for each book and about individual topics he finds most interesting. Overall, this is indeed a good practice to synthesize a whole book (the Bible or whatever book you might read) through a single piece of design. I wonder if any other designers have done something like these, no matter the religion. We'd love to see it! Remember, good design is universal, and very much welcome here. Of course, for more of Jim LePage's project, called Word, you may visit his portfolio! I hope you enjoy these as much as I did, and I challenge you to make your own designs about stuff you care, books you read, songs you listen, feelings you feel. Cheers! ;)
