Your Best Shot 2009

We all know that Flickr is the best place to find the best photography on the web and this year flickr started an amazing group pool called Your Best Shot 2009 in which any member can send in their best shot. What we got from that is one of the biggest and greatest pool of photography one has ever seen, and here I selected a few to share with you.

Flickr is the home of millions of photography and photographers, the best place to display your photo work and the idea of allowing each member to send in their best shot of the year is just insane, so far there are more than 8 thousand shots and they are all great.

Bending Light

Wow... it's like watching a SciFi movie about cosmic rays, sunlight or maybe gamma radiation. I'm talking about the experiments of Alan Jaras, a "light photographer", on flickr.

Down his photostream there are many many experiments and attempts (and why not to say sucess) on bending light, an strange phenomeon formed when light passes through various pieces of glass. Here, I'm gonna post only a few, but you really should visit his flickr and check everything out. You'll get amazed. Cheers! ;)

Flickr is such a great place to find inspiration. There are people from all over the world sharing their art, and it's amazing to see all the different perspectives from all sorts of subjects.

Awesome LEGOd Video Games

Yesterday we found about this 16 years old kid who made nice pics of old games in the real world, and it was quite funny. Today, following a potential series of game related posts, some cool pictures of "Legod Video Games".

Ronn (or skinny coder), a dude from LA came up with the idea of building old games scenes with Lego, and the result is really something. Check these out! And we've also found a Flickr pool full of these... Hope you all like it. Cheers! :)

Awesome Light Graffiti Pictures

Long Exposure pictures can get pretty awesome if you have the right ideas. One of the coolest ideas is to make sweet light graffiti with this camera option.

During all summer I've played with it, and made some nice pictures (some other day I'll post it), but not as nice as some of these pictures right here! 98% of it was found on Flickr! Hope you like it.

Mid Century Modern Art Inspiration

Vintage stuff is always a good source of inspiration. Posters, ads, stamps... but how about matchboxes?

While surfing on Flickr, I found these on a group called: "the Mid Century Modern - Sticker, Label + Stamp Club group icon", and I loved it. There are Russian , Hungarian, and other countries' matchboxes from the WW II period. Cool look, sweet design. Man, they sure knew how to design crazy matchboxes.

I guess this are pretty good. "Kill a couple enemies, have a smoke."

I SO need fire while I'm taking a shower.

I guess it reads "Freakish Experimental War Pets" or something close to it.

Have a smoke, get cancer, lose weight.

Reminds me of Franz Ferdinand. Don't ask me why.

Now i'm just getting confused. A kid having a shake?

Oh, c'mom. Be creative. That's too obvious. Haha.

I don't think these matches are supposed to light regular cigarettes. "Trippin' far far away".

Althought my favorite one is a sticker, if it was a matchbox, it would say: "Use these matches... or DIE".

When you are a designer, you gotta think about a lot of things: contrast, balance, alignments, imagery, and typography. For me, design itself is all about typography. Not only typefaces, but how you use it and what you may create playing with them.

Typography is the art and techniques of type design, modifying type glyphs, and arranging type. Type glyphs (characters) are created and modified using a variety of illustration techniques. The arrangement of type is the selection of typefaces, point size, line length, leading (line spacing) and letter spacing.

This is a script that mashes up Adobe Illustrator CS3, Flickr and In the Mod Color Analytics. Basically it's a swf Panel that allows us to search Flickr images and view the colors from each image.
