Couple in Snowstorm, Central Park, New York City, 2003

This photo was taken during the huge blizzard that hit the city in 2003. The snowstorm created such bad conditions that for much of the day I was completely lost in the park. At some point I found this bridge to seek refuge under. It didn't take long before this couple came along with the same idea.

Manhattan on Fire, Brooklyn Bridge, New York City, 2010

The sky was white and unassuming until the sun began to set. Then the colors lit up the sky as if the entire city was on fire.

I caught this photo just as the man was about to tackle the woman in the middle of Sheep Meadow in Central Park.

East River,New York City, 2003

This photo was taken on the edge of the East River at a cold 5:30 AM with only a handful of dedicated joggers out. In reality, it was much darker out than the exposure suggests.

Poets' Walk at Dusk, Central Park, New York City, 2006

This is a 30 second exposure looking down the south end of the Mall in Central Park, also known as Poets' Walk.The lights of the office buildings of Central Park South peer through the bare branches of the trees here to give this photo the feeling of an urban wilderness. At the time, I felt like I was covered in a dome of trees, yet also right in the middle of midtown Manhattan.

This is a photograph of office buildings on 17 State Street in the financial district of the city.I thought of what a city on Mars would look like when I saw the roundness of the central building and so I decided to give it this tint to create an 'otherworldly' feel.

Beautiful Black and White Photography

I really love colorful photography and all its shades... but in terms of awesomeness, black and white pictures are years ahead. I find amazing how a picture gets this really beautiful feel once it goes through all the processes required.

These are some fantastic black and white pictures, and I guessed it was a good time for a cool selection of BW pictures. These are some very talented photographers. 32 Years In the Life of Alison by Jeff Radcliffe

I should have posted this a long time ago, but at the time i saw it it did not impress me that much. Jack Radcliffe photographed his daugther Alison from her birth in 1975 until 2007. This exhibition contains 32 years of very emotional black and white pictures of the process of a girl growing.

This collection reminded me of the Noah Video where he takes a photo of himself every day for 6 years and put it into a video. Please visit Jack Radcliffe's wonderful website: http://www.jackradcliffe.org/ for more pictures.

When my daughter Alison was born, in the tradition of a new parent, I began to photograph her, initially in a separate and private body of work. However, in the process of documenting Alison's growth, I developed a passionate interest in human relationships and capturing intimate moments in the lives of family and friends.

My photographs of Alison, because of the nature of our relationship, are very much a father-daughter collaboration-Alison permitting me access to private moments of our life, which might, under different circumstances, be off-limits to a parent. The camera, early in her life, became part of our relationship, necessitating in me an acceptance, a quietness. We've never had long photographic sessions, but rather moments alone or with friends.

The significance of these pictures emerges in retrospect. I realize as I look at them, that I created a visual life story of Alison, capturing moments in her metamorphosis from infant to woman-her relationships with friends, her rebellion, and underlying it all, her relationship with me, a constant throughout her life. I wanted to photograph her in all her extremes, and to be part of these times in her life without judging or censoring. Only in this way would I have a true portrait of Alison.

Intriguing Black & White Photography

Following the Black Week spirit I’ve put together some amazing black & white photographs here to instigate your taste for ‘black’.

Personally I love black and white photos because they seem to capture the real scene of a picture without coloring it. Since they are not colored they give us the opportunity to concentrate at the image, the lighting, the context and the perspective of the scene.
