Well, now this list has a new top 1... it was presented in Dubai the Burj Khalifa or Burj Dubai, the tallest building in world today with 828m. Wow!</h3> <!--break--><!--break--><p>Officially opened yesterday, January 04 of 2010, the Burj Dubai is the tallest building made by the humans hand. When I looked at the first pictures in the beggining of the construction in 2005, I almost couldn't believe in the enormous building they wanted to put in that place. The Burj is far taller than the previous record, the Taipei 101 Tower, in Taiwan with 509m. The building can be viewed from 95km away, is covered with 26,000 glass panels and the estimate cost for the Burj Khalifa was about US$1.5 bilion.</p> <blockquote><p>"The tower is a global icon. In another post we talked about the <a href="http://abduzeedo.com/unusual-architecture-dubai-part-1">The Unusual Architecture of Dubai</a>, where you can see that the buildings are created to make history, no matter how architects will be see them. We have to think if we really want this as a reference to new projects, what is the reason to build stuff even taller and more expensive? Maybe the investiment on the urbanism and the planning of Dubai would be more important than those sinlge projects.</p> <p class="imgC"><a href="http://www.burjdubaiskyscraper.com/"><img However, in 1975 this number was much smaller, something around 183,200. Seen by the whole world as a futuristic and modern city, t's in constantly change, Dubai has invested heavily in architecture, hiring some of the most famoust architects to project its skyline.</h3> <p>The question I ask as an architect is: Is that the architecture of the future?
