The Awesomeness of Old B Horror Movies

November 06, 2009

Retro horror movies posters are pretty sweet, and designing them requires much more than just checking references and all that. The best reference to make a killer horror movie poster is to actually watch some old B horror movies!

I know that Halloween is gone, but we don't need an excuse to design and watch cool trailers, right? So here I made a selection of some really trashy, retro B horror movies trailers for your delight. I really hope you get the purpose of this: inspire the hell out of you. I hope you can still have a good night of sleep by the end of this post. Cheers! ;p

Monster in the Closet (1987)

Gorgo (1960)

Monster from a Prehistoric Planet (1967)

Magic (1978)

The Gate (1987)

Hell of the Living Dead (1980)

The Legend of Hell House (1973)

Deranged (1974)

The Evil (1978)

The House of the Witch (1975)

This one is my FAVORITE.

I remembered the trailer of "The Asylum of Satan"...

I've never watched something like that... it's a shitty movie, with shitty actors, and a shitty plot.

Oh, and a shitty soundtrack.
What do you think? d:

Movies from the 70s and 80s pretty often seem to be about terror and catastrophes (in general, not only horror movies). Great selection of trailers anyway.

I'm missing some movies on the list. My favorite is EVIL DEAD, the first one. Really trashy, but brings a scary climax

Deranged is one-half of the double feature with Motel Hell on a Midnite Movies DVD. Motel Hell is one of my all-time favorite B movies, so I'm looking forward to finally watching Deranged. Your post makes me want to watch it even sooner!

The Gate! Now that brings back memories. Pretty decent effects for a B-movie. I always loved the kid's 12" album cover with built in evil tome.

On a side note, if you're a graphic design nerd who enjoys horror movies, I also recommend "The 9th Gate". Who doesn't like books of ancient evil?
