Our friend Justin Maller started a really cool project this year, it's called Facet and it's quite a challenge because it's a daily image project. Justin will create a piece a day for 365 days. He has put together 25 already and as you can see in this post, they are simply awesome. FACET was born out of a desire to just play and experiment as I did when I first started making art. Over the decade plus I've been creating work, I had evolved to a place where I was obsessed with refining my pieces, pouring more and more hours in to them, tweaking and picking and murdering any chance of having any fun. I missed simply making something, enjoying the process and then releasing the result in to the world without losing my mind trying to perfect it. I made the first few with no real end game in sight, just for pleasure. I began to think I could create an exhibitions worth of material when my girlfriend Ting challenged me to make it a daily project for a full year. Run Your Jewels: Round 2 Submissions

RunYourJewels is a very fun digital media remix competition where every two weeks, a different artist (provider) uploads a high resolution of an original piece. Everyone can download the source, then one week to remix and submit. Afterwards voting opens and the best wins! Curated by design collective Depthcore Founder Justin Maller, RunYourJewels surely is a design challenge and also amazing opportunity to learn from the masters! If you don't know him yet, Justin is a free lancer illustrator and art director based in Melbourne Australia. He's also the creative director of depthCORE. Justin has had the pleasure of producing illustrations and concept art for a diverse array of companies and publications worldwide, and enjoys a cordial collaborative relationship with several prestigious international design studios. He is an inner core member of the Keystone Design Union, an avid sneaker collector, a savvy blogger, occassional tweeter, and a mild force of nature on the basketball court. Justin Maller has just released his new portfolio at superlover.com.au/ with some very really cool designs. Justin is a member of the The KDU and DepthCore collectives and he was the first designer we interviewed on Abduzeedo. Also he featured our 10 Photoshop Masters article. I believe it’s not necessary to say anything else. Justin Maller is a freelance graphic artist based in Melbourne, Australia. He has been creating digital art for over seven years, and has been producing professionally for the last 24 months. In July 2007 he released his first Solo Exhibition, which opened to a warm reception in Windsor, Australia. Justing is also the Creative Director of depthCORE, a world renowned international digital art collective established in june 2002. Below we list some of his designs.
