12 Awesome Free Eroded and Grunge Fonts

June 09, 2009 from PauloGabriel's blog

It's been a longe time since we had some fonts featured here at Abduzeedo! There's no need to say that free fonts are sweet. There are many fonts sites out there, but my favorite's been Dafont.com for a long time. It has got many categories, full of awesome fonts.

So, yesterday I was looking for some inspiration to make a new wallpaper for me, and I ran into eroded and grunge fonts. These are really great to make messy designs, full of noise and maybe paint splatters! You can always erode your own fonts, but it's really cool to get some ready, to optimize your work. Just as an example of design you might do, here's a wallpaper I did for my twitter a few weeks ago:

Super Cool Watercolor Effect in 10 steps in Photoshop
Last year I wrote a Photoshop tutorial for PSDTUTS showing how to create a very nice design using watercolor brushes. It was inspired by the work of guys such as Bruno Fujii, Margot Mace, Raphaël of My Dead Pony and Stina Person. This time I will create another effect but it will be using Masks and Watercolor brushesl; it's inspired by another great digital artist, the master Scott Hansen the mind behind ISO 50 and also some images from the Daily Inspiration.

The wallpaper of this week is really cool, it's an image from Brett Whatmough, a very talented digital artist from the UK. You can check some of his works on hist DeviantArt page at http://brettuk.deviantart.com/ Im currently working at Manchester United as a web designer/ graphic designer so most of my stuff there is mainly commercial. So when i get home it totally switches and i try really let my imagination go.

The book suggestion of the week is about Jeff Bezos and the history of Amazon.com. One Click: Jeff Bezos and the Rise of Amazon.com is a really good book, very inspiring and motivating especially about believing on what you are doing and focus on the long term when doing things.
