20 Insane Vectors by Ahmed Alrefaie

May 12, 2009

Besides the regular names we know I haven't seen a good new vector artist in a while, that's why I was really surprised with the work of Ahmed, he creates great vectors so full of details that it's unbelievable. No wonder why he takes a month on each piece, check it out!

All my artwork is created from start to finish on Photoshop CS3, using only a mouse, I create outlines using the Pentool provided then color. Some refer to it as a Vector, and others Vexel, eitherway it uses precise and accurate lines and shapes in order to create sharp artwork. An average artwork I create takes approx. one month. That said I am lazy ;P

Holy crap! This guy is REALLY good!!

Apu05/12/2009

Dude, amazing work. What kind of books do you read? Must be some serious cyberpunk going on in your head. Really nice. I like the style and the theme.

I asume you've read Snow Crash (Neal Stephenson). Some real cool ideas there for further artwork. Maybe something you want to look into...

insane! What great style and imagination.

Sean Smyth05/12/2009

Wow. That's amazing. *is jealous*

Anonymous05/12/2009

you should modify the source material images more. Its blatantly clear that the models are from popular pictures of well-known people, which mars the art. Try unknown models, or just change the faces more.

iHashem05/12/2009

true artiest !!

Maverick_JPA05/12/2009

FODA !

gary05/12/2009

BrianPhilip05/12/2009

awesome! that's some serious talent

Anthony Proulx05/12/2009

Wicked Awesome!

I've never seen such nice vectors. Bravo Man, you've found you niche.

jetgirl05/12/2009

i agree, most are obvious photos of famous actresses/models which leads me to believe they were mostly traced. (the extra bits and colors of course aren't) however creating vectors from photos is what the pen tool is all about so these are great portfolio-only pieces showcasing a designers skill in tracing.

Bullardino05/12/2009

I just can say, WOW!

BrooklynChica05/12/2009

Awesome!!!

BayAreaRed05/13/2009

As a beginning graphic/website design student, I found these pretty awesome and only hope that one day I can create something at least 1/10th as good. (But I doubt it)

Excuse me now, gonna go check out your tutorial section... :)

fesh05/13/2009

INSANE!!!

Vim05/13/2009

incredible artwork, some of the faces on the vectors seem familiar Angelina Jolie and Jessica Alba, the artwork is so detailed, it would probably take me ages to re-produce something like the 3rd picture in this blog.

kadaffy05/13/2009

omg, this is insane. Amazing stuff!

omar2chill05/13/2009

you are not a human. ur skills nd ideas r out of this world.

( i do see Angelina Jolie in the one with the hook and Jessica Alba in the one with the feathers and most of the faces look familiar, it would be super rad to create the faces too)

Anonymous05/14/2009

Pretty nice art, but too bad he's ruined them with watermarks in the middle.

Anonymous05/14/2009

So i'm not the only one who sees Megan fox, Katie holmes, Angelina and the other actresses?

rislampa05/14/2009

Absolutely beautiful stuff

Moh05/14/2009

This is very cool. I love many of the concepts used. Pretty creative stuff. So this took 20 months to make?

f05505/14/2009

This is sick! Insane! Fabulous! Pure skill...

Anonymous05/14/2009

I also see obviously Megan Fox as well as the chick that marries Chandler in friends

David105/14/2009

Yea. it's pretty cool.

jason mayo05/14/2009

i like how all the girls look like they have penis's

Anonymous05/14/2009

Needs more porn

Anonymous05/15/2009

So he traces photos of actresses and adds crappy looking environments. Very nice, this is almost certainly not horrible at all. This "skill" is like being the best person at getting cancer.

JasonL05/15/2009

WTF? It's a cartoon!!! Something that can be created in two to three hours on paper.

Television Spy05/15/2009

I see Megan Fox, Katie Holmes, Jessica Alba, Angelina Jolie Carmen Electra...

lol seems like a lot of them are based off of celebrity poses.

JT Knight05/15/2009

Wow, that is crazy good! I wish I had half the skill.

Pia05/15/2009

Am I visualising correctly?? These women look like actresses. Monica Gellar? Nicole Kidman? The chick from 40 Days and 40 Nights .. you ve really captured the realism in people.

xeos05/15/2009

There's obvious tracing here, which is a shame, because the artist seems to have a firm grasp of geometric shapes, but the blatant tracing of celebrity images ruins it, they are recognizable to the point where I find it morally objectionable to pass this on as your own artwork without giving credit to the model and the photographer.

Anonymous05/15/2009

Agreed. I find the work to be quite weak. Poor color, depth and just not as striking as I normally see on this site. The fact it takes a month to do these seems like a waste.

Anon05/15/2009

I think the dudes just tracing some photos of actresses and then modifying that by adding his own stuff.

I can see a couple of photos of Angelina Jolie in here as well as Meagan Fox, Shannyn Sossamon, Jessica Alba, Katie Holmes etc.

So bascally he's tracing the poses and the faces and that will cut out a lot of work so I highly doubt it'll take a month to make one of these unless he's spending very little time on it everyday.

Tracing is no big deal. Nothing special. Anyone can do it given enough time and you could do it within a couple of minutes using the live trace function in Adobe illustrator. Otherwise you could use the cutout function in photoshop, import that to illustrator and then trace it if that satisfies you.

People get fooled so easily these days.

Just read his comment at the top. So they aren't even vectors. They are vexels. Everyone calling them vectors should learn the difference.

Beboparebop05/15/2009

These are technically virtuosic, creative and well designed, but they still look like vector illustrations. They don't stand up to comparison with natural media illustrations. Too bad. The technology seemed exciting ten or fifteen years ago. Now, I'm thinking, "Learn to paint, dude."

Anonymous05/15/2009

Wow, beautiful work - I love the little worlds that you create, especially the one in the light bulb!

Dainis Graveris05/15/2009

Even more insane is fact that everything is created just using mouse not tablet!

I wonder how many hours took every single artwork!

stelt05/15/2009

They look great. But vector? Show me where the SVG files are and i'll link this resource in my SVG resource.

windsdiary05/15/2009

great work!
I like them!

Peterfabricius05/15/2009

Woow, nice & stunning work!

Did he used Models? The Girl with the sunglasses and feathers reminds me of Jessica Alba. At least her face.

Anonymous05/15/2009

wow amazing vector work!

evan Varsamis05/15/2009

wow, great job m8, check out my portfolio too :), I have just started the whole design thing and I think that I am doing well:)

Anonymous05/15/2009

I ended up here via Digg. The art looks amazing, however, your post fails to resize the images to fit the space and so you see aliasing and "jaggies" all over the place. Not very complimentary to vector art which is so sharp and precise. If you look at the image how it looks on the page, then right click the image and view it at it's correct resolution, you'll see what I mean. Doesn't take that long to properly resize a group of images, and they'll look infinitely better on your page.

Anonymous05/18/2009

Wow, that is crazy good! I wish I had half the skill...

Kamal Chaneman05/20/2009

that's awsome vectorr skill dude...!!!
