30 Impressing 3D Portraits

November 14, 2008

Back in July we had an awesome post about 3d works, and today it came to my mind why we didn't have another post like that since then. Well, it's time for some awesome 3d pieces!

Visiting the amazing CG Society site, I've ran into many impressing portraits, which I chose to featured here today. From fantasy portraits, to sci-fi, to just real people, these are stunning, and really amazing pieces. It totally makes me wanna do this! How about some 3D tuts? Anyone good out there willing to deliver us any sweet tuts? Hope to hear from you guys soon!! In the meanwhile, I hope you enjoy these!! Cheers. ;)

I'm a CGSociety user and I had seen all this pieces when they were posted there.

I don't think is honest to make a post like that, even telling the source.

You make money with advertises in this site and you are republishing their content without permission.

I think its perfectly fine what he is doing, he shares the source the copyright info is right there, there is no difference from this then taking it for yourself as right-clicking and saving as..

I m just curious to how these are made?

PauloGabriel11/14/2008

@Blacker Design - That's exactly what I want to know too... I know that most of them use software like Maya, 3Ds Max, and others... but HOW, I don't know!! Let's hope anyone delivers us a tut! Cheers! ;D

PauloGabriel11/14/2008

Just because you're a CGSociety user, it makes this post not honest? And what about all other people that are not CGS's members? How do they get to know these pieces? Dude, like we say in Brazil, "think twice before saying something."

leckie11/14/2008

Leocda,

He is actually fully crediting the artists and not stealing their work, this is no different than what any other site is doing (see, Digg). Your logic is completely flawed, he is merely getting their work out to more people.

If you don't understand how the internet works I suggest you refrain from using it.

c1x11/14/2008

omg, some of them are looking so real, thank you so much for sharing

Mufied11/14/2008

waw..its great..^^,,by the way that max edwin wahyudi "song hye kyo",,,really like it,,,

Mr Kuzio11/14/2008

Oh my god! This images are crazy!

leocda11/14/2008

It's not honest not because I'm a user of CGSociety, but because you
republished some of their best content for your own profit without permission.

They survive in great part from their content, just like this site, so you shouldn't use their content on your own benefit. To be honest you should tell people about the content and show people how to go to the truly publisher, not republish it, mainly because you got just the best part. Taking this to the extreme, if a lot of people decides to reproduce others' content, nobody needs to go to the real pubhisher to see it.

It's very worse than save one or other image for your personal use, cause in this case you are not republishing, neither preventing people of see that in the original source, neither profitting from that.

Just because you said who was the undermined site, doesn't make you act correct.

YOU should think a little before make a so shaming thing.

If you don't know what is honest or not, maybe you should consult a lawyer.

Lecolad, how is this issue bothering you? Seriously? Dude knock it of no one really cares, well i could download theses images remove the "copyright" part and claim that they are mine....ever though about that?

Ever though this is some sort of advertise for the website itself? Seriously dude, people do this all the time, i seen tutorials from abduzeedo all over the web my guess is that no one ask for those, just they did the exact same that is done over here. No one really cares...but you its seems to be...

Keep the posts up, Paulo. Si vc consegi achar achar como os caras fazem isso ai, me manda um messagem o algo blz?

Hi Leocda,

i´m sure that the money you are referring it´s nothing compared about the price that fabio has to pay for the website host, because ads doesn´t makes anyone rich. Also i think it´s better to publish CGSociety pictures in more blogs, website or places because more people will see the work and know about the authors. It has all the author names and also were are they from.

In my own and personal opinion it´s nothing wrong with this post.!!!

1deomatik11/14/2008

It's pretty sad when one person can't enjoy art and get inspired.
These posts are simply a showcase for what is out there, no where does it say they came from HERE. Anyone who reads the "Daily Inspiration" or articles like this should be smart enough to figure out that these are for us to look at and enjoy as artists and peers. This isn't a "Hey look at MY post of MY pictures that ONLY I FOUND" post. Its a "Hey look at these great artists work and ENJOY it" post. It says in Paulo's small bio above these comments "At Abduzeedo, I try to bring only the hot stuff for you guys... and hope that all of you enjoy my posts!" Why can't you just check out stuff, appreciate other people work, and move on.

Keep it up Fabio, Paulo and all the rest, Abuzeedo is amazing :)

@Leocda : You're so close minded. It's because of people like you that the open source cannot overpass the licensed software. How can you complain about Paulo whereas the only thing he made was to promote you ? I'm sure that Abduzeedo has a bigger audience than CG. Check your statistic.

BTW, good post.

ps: I'm french, so excuse my english.

As a fan of this site and all the amazingly wonderful inspirations I have recieved from posts just like this one... I know that when there is something like this dicussing a source like CGSociety, which I didn't know about, is a major advantace for the source sites. Personally if there is a site showcased that has work that I really enjoy 9 time out of 10 I visit the site to see a larger sample of work... really I see no harm in helping gain traffic to a source site..

Ale11/14/2008

Looks like photographs! really cool

loswl11/14/2008

Very Nice Post! some of these look so real!!...I love 3D!...CGSociety is a great spot for inspiration...Doing 3D is a little more advanced than Photoshop, it takes a lot of time and patience and to produce images like the ones above, you need to master modeling, texturing and lighting. Here is a tutorial I found that explains the basics of modeling a face in CINEMA 4D http://www.psionic3d.co.uk/page.php?42 My Avatar was created in Poser http://my.smithmicro.com/mac/poser/index.html , pretty good program, if you do not want to create a Model from scratch. ;o)

You can check out some of my 3D Art at the link below, nothing compared to the images above...LOL

cookie11/14/2008

It's going to take more than a tutorial to make any of these...

mike11/14/2008

surely you mean impressive

Anonymous11/14/2008

leocda - you have a FAR distorted version of copyright my friend. Read up on intellectual property laws.

Anonymous11/14/2008

the demented rabbits are so badass. oh and ps. quit bein 'pissy pantses' bout legalities, the artists are gettin their due credit and i hardly beleive any of the artists would complain about free publicity of their work, they get recognition and whooptiy shit the site makes money, but if it makes you feel better by all means go on and bitch about it.

Jason Beaner11/14/2008

Wow, that was pretty cool. Excellent images.

The Morgan Freeman, the asian girl and Locke from Lost were the best. The only problem is the Locke one had a little too much detail - which kinda makes it look fake or a very highly res pic. The alias one was a little plastic looking.

Amazing work still.

Anonymous11/15/2008

already heard about this a couple days ago from http://stuffididlastnight.com

Matt11/17/2008

Amazing! Thanks.

tanaka13 - Créations du Net11/17/2008

Very nice 3d portraits here! outstanding work in modelling and texturing. great post!

kidlizard11/17/2008

Wow I havent seen many of these and whata great inspiration.

There are tutuorials all over the web of course for 3D, but for making renders such as these you'll need many of hours of practice.

Leocda: Im sure CgSociety doesnt mind any extra generated traffic to their site, also the artists would most likely be willing to post their works......hell there posted already there so whats the difference.

This site is just bringing it to your attention, if you dont like it dont look!

Thank You,

lordCovenant11/19/2008

remarkably great 3d portraits!
hats off to the CGSociety!

:D

Fabian Sanhueza11/22/2008

que nivel mas elevado de manejo, algun dia quizas llegue a estar a la mitad de ese nivel, por ahora vamos avanzando y aprendiendo....
mi consulta es en que programa lo habran hecho ????

what is the program used in this works ?
really have a total dominio on it, so i can see some details in anyworks... but in general is a very very good work 3D

Tomek (Poland)11/22/2008

congratulations, your images are really amazing.

Alexander11/25/2008

Wow! Really nice and realistic 3D models! I am impressed. :-)

The End11/26/2008

I am truly amazed.

Bia12/14/2008

Incrivel... algumas são tão perfeitas que não dá pra acreditar que não são fotos!!

excelente trabalho!!

reiv12/27/2008

I never gave this site permission to post my work....

The Türk02/14/2009

@leocda & reiv,
I guess you should burn your computers or at least your internet cables...

There are fullcredits and this is enough!

Imagine this site's author saying you: "I never gave you permission to post a comment here..." What would you think?

Stop that.

Azhar02/15/2009

Sorry to say that I agree with Leoceda. As a photographer, I know how frustrating it can be to see your work published elsewhere without permission. If the work is under Creative Commons licenses which allows this, thats alright, but here, it isn't, and I'm sorry to say that the author should have asked before republishing it.

Tomas02/15/2009

Its quite interesting thought though, if all bloggers in total earn more money of writing about it/copy it than the real creators (most of people stay here and have no time to go on). Is that morally good?

Patternhead02/16/2009

Some great work here.

I'm stunned by the qulaity of some of the photo real stuff. Awesome!

MarbleHost03/12/2009

The fun part of this is viewing the work process like the low poly meshes and the wireframes.

reza04/02/2009

I never gave this site permission to post my work....pl

Alis04/21/2009

This super, thanks for sharing

Jackie08/04/2009

Thank you Paulo. I had never heard of CG's website! I've posted on Clipmarks and Twitter so that others can also enjoy without having to search through hundreds of images to find the best 3d art. I expect Paulo has inspired thousands of people to check out the CG site and maybe even invest in 3D software...it has me!

leocda et al..An artist who wants their artwork to remain buried exclusively on one page of a particular website (out of billions of others) and not be seen by thousands of extra people should rethink before posting on the internet. Personally I'd be thrilled to get on this site. Avertising agencies charge thousands to do what Abduzeedo does for free! So what if they make some money from advertising revenue. Maintaining a website takes a lot of time and effort.. I don't see anyone complaining about their FREE tutorials.
