Amazing Retro-Futuristic Space Collection
September 09, 2009
Ever since I was a kid I've had this fascination for space. I remember growing up watching Star Trek episodes with my dad on those lazy Sunday afternoons. And of course not to mention all those really old so-bad-that-they're-good space movies. Oh, and Star Wars but that's a given ;)
Following my sometimes nerdy fixation for space, I went on the lookout for all things retro-futuristic and found some really nice stuff. In this collection I've included some awesome pieces by Mark Weaver (one of my favorite designers), Drew Struzan (the great), Robert McCall (really nice NASA space art gallery) and many others so be sure to check out their portfolios after!
And if you're as much of a space nerd as I am, I want to hear from you! Yes, you there.... watching your Star Trek re-runs, playing with your Chewbacca action figure, let me know I'm not alone via twitter or facebook :)

There is Daft Punk's helmet on 8th picture! It's Awesome!!!
I've used these a lot to gain inspiration for my retro futurism artwork I have since I started since Feburary.
I utilized the awesome space girl helmet http://tinyurl.com/metoge for a piece that I created that represented a Atari 2600 video game cover http://www.behance.net/Gallery/Space-Girl-World/244102 The helmet is just awesome.
Wow there is some great stuff on here, classic but we are missing the Last Star Fighter Artwork?
Argh, so much AWESOME. I love old space/sci-fi illustrations. They are the sublimely inspirational.
Parabéns Amanda pela grande quantidade de fotos sobre o tema...
Algumas dessas imagens me lembra o estilo da arte do Alex Ross q desenha os gibis da Marvel
J'aime cette compil; Thanks !!
J'aime cette compil!!! Merci!
If you're into these retro space thingies, take a look at "Perry Rhodan". It's about as retro as it gets for Sci-Fi stories and they have a huge coverart archive.
I've been a big fan of illustrations like these for many years. Some of the best collections of this type were published in the long out-of-print Terran Trade Authority series of books. They've recently started re-releasing the books, but with new, CG art, which IMO is greatly inferior to the original illustrations. If you're a fan of this kind of work, I highly recommend hunting down copies of the TTA books. "Spacewrecks" gets my vote for the best of the series.
Great. Now i can say thank you!,
