Mario Cucinella is an Italian architect who has a huge concern in adapting his designs to climate and sustainability issues: constraints that guide their projects in form and function to a global reality, minimizing the impact of new works.
Mario Cucinella was born in Italy in 1960. At 27, he left the University of Genoa with a degree in architecture. Five years later, in 1992, he founded the MCA in Paris and in 1999, Mario Cucinella Architects in Bologna. Early on the office had great success in international competitions, research and industrial design. But the highlight has always been special interest in sustainability and climate drawings. In 1994, Elizabeth Francis joined the MCA, and three years later became a partner and is now the vice president. She has a particular interest in architectural research, leading the department.

After having worked for five years between Genoa and Paris with Renzo Piano, Mario Cucinella is a visiting professor at Nottingham University and teaches regularly at schools of architecture in Europe. What draws the most attention in his work are not the various awards, but the intense search for sustainability in their designs, something that is no longer a novelty so much as it is a necessity. In all his projects it is possible to note studies, surveys and design intent in accordance with the climate and terrain which guide their projects both in form and function, making their projects a kind of extension.
