Astonishing Paper Sculptures from Jeff Nishinaka

July 20, 2010 from GisMullr's blog

This weekend I was browsing around my feeds when I bumped into some amazing paper sculptures from Jeff Nishinaka and simply loved it! As soon as I started looking his portfolio I decided to select some of it to show here to you... his sculptures are really astonishing. They are complete scenes filled with characters and personality. You can for sure picture a whole history looking at Jeff's art, even when you look at a single charater piece.

Los Angeles native Jeff Nishinaka is the world's premier paper sculptor with a prolific career that spans 28 years. Nishinaka attended UCLA and graduated from prestigious Art Center College of Design, where he first experimented with paper and sculpture. Nishinaka's commercial portfolio includes Bloomingdales, Visa, Paramount Pictures, Coca-Cola and others.

As you probably already know, here at Abduzeedo we love to find new and beautiful stuff to show our readers... and for me, Jeff Nishinaka's work is exactly that. He manage to create paper sculptures that are perfect, that don't even look like paper. His pieces almost look real! I really recommend you to check out his portfolio to see his whole collection and to check out the details from some pieces. Take your time... ;)

Surprise behind the curtain in Photoshop
Surprise behind the curtain in Photoshop
In this tutorial I will show how to create curtains and other nice effects in Photoshop. When I was traveling I was always thinking about some ideas for wallpapers for Abduzeedo. Concepts that would show what the blog is about and of course, related to the Space subject. That was when I had this idea of an alien behind curtains. Anyway, for this tutorial we will use some images from iStockphoto and Google Images, and as usual some neat lighting effects. You probably know how to create some of the effects but it's a good exercise on how to turn an idea into an image.
