Awesome Architecture in HDR
October 14, 2009
Yesterday I was browsing through Flickr and I came across some Architecture groups with images that simply amazed me, most of them were beautiful photos of buildings in HDR. I'm a big fan of HDR because it sorts of increase the level of details and textures with that very unique lighting.
I've chosen only 30 photos from these groups, they're all sorts of projects. But I highly recommend that you visit the groups on Flickr to appreciate all the beauty of these architecture projects in HDR: flickr.com/groups/hdrarchitecture.

Architecture and HDR, something I like to compare with a yellow background with some black text on it in (unaltered) Helvetica Neue: it's something that can't be done wrong.
Absolutely stunning work! Great job. I really love the subject matter as well.

Nice compositions..
But I personally don't like the whole HDR effect on most pictures though.
i like the church
great!!!
Awesome effects!
What NOT to do with HDR. This is horrible.
for anyone that sees this, check out this HDR shot http://www.flickr.com/photos/jakegalati/3257182432/
a friend of mine did it.
nice, good treatment ;)
This effect is as cheap as a default photoshop 'bevel & emboss' filter on a button. Might aswell throw transparent blur on there aswell...
I find that this has nothing to do with good photography.
Genius!Genius architecture!Love it!

concrete + glass + hdr = works but not always, and not as intense!
but there are some nice examples here! cheers

The architectural forms are great!
Not so sure about the HDR. Too heavy-handed and cartoony; makes the images look amateur.
Is it just the nature of the HDR beast to have very dark ominous clouds? It's on all but a few of the examples shown and is very distracting. I know it adds dramatic effect, but it seems overly so. The actual architecture in the photos looks very cool though.
This is nice, but I like the HDR effect more on abandoned places.
nice photos
i love hdr photography. if you don't mind, i'll share some of my works:

Excelente!
amazing
These are not good examples of hdr but they are good examples of arch photography. Way to many halo's on these images, they are just over processed.
Why do the tone map so much? a non spectacular image does not get a good image when you overstress the tone mapping effect
very nice collection. lovely HDR. Thanks

these are fantastic! good thing to have along side you when producing renders to.
Aaaaaaaaargh what is the obsession with HDR? The vast majority are just awful. HDR has its place when used properly to get as much detail out of a pic but these like nearly all showcased on this site are awful and look more like a horrible photoshop filter than a decent HDR photo. Please stop showing them
Too much hdr!
Haha the building in the 5th and 6th pictures was recently voted worst building of the year....

This further cements my opinion of HDR being tacky.
HDR is a wonderful tool that is grossly misused. All of these images are ugly and tacky. IMO, this particular use of HDR is for amateurs. No professional worth a damn would dare use HDR for this type of effect. Just my two cents...
