Breathtaking Photography

February 16, 2009

I love photography... that will never change. I could spend hours and hours looking at some awesome pictures, and thank God for Flickr. There, a person manages to find tons of breathtaking shots... full of passion, agony, insanity... some colorful, some not... there are all the feelings.

Here is a brief selection of the picture that took my breath away during a little visit to Flickr. I really hope you enjoy these as much as I did. Cheers! ;)

Njke02/16/2009

Stunning set! O_O
Thank you a lot, saved all of them to my collection.

Anonymous02/17/2009

While I'm flattered my photo took your breath away, you also took my photo away from flickr without my consent, which is essentially the same as theft.

I make money from my photography. You don't make money from my photography.

PauloGabriel02/17/2009

Since you didn't tell me who you are, I can't take your picture out of here since I don't know which one is yours. And no, this is not theft, this is free advertising for you.

Timon02/17/2009

woauw luv that cuwl stuff :P

themisfit02/17/2009

Those are amazing pictures.

clickflashphotos02/17/2009

thankyou so much for including my picture :) it really made me smile when I saw it in the referalls.

Eligarf02/17/2009

the dog and pic number 4 are simply beautiful, sad and cinematic. i wish i knew how to take photos like this ^_^

but wait, who says this is theft? c'mon now, you should be honored. i'd die to have one of my works posted here.

Luigy Lukatello02/17/2009

Stunning images! i luv photography!

Webdesigner Depot02/17/2009

Wow, the Sun Explosion picture really grabbed my attention. It's just a shame that there isn't a higher resolution version of this picture available on Flickr, because I would like to print this out on some nice photo paper and frame it. Hopefully with a little searching I will be able to track down a higher resolution version!

B. Moore02/17/2009

WOW WOW WOW WOW WOW i cant stop saying it WOW WOW WOW

hdr & infrared are my favorites!

thanks for compiling this list of beauty!

b-dub99602/17/2009

True, technically it isn't stealing because you are not making money from the photo directly, but you are making money from this site with advertisers and you are using the photo in this post obviously without consent. Really a gray area but one best not toyed with.

I've found that if you just ask, artists are usually more than happy to give their permission to use their work for inspiration like the site you have here. And if they don't, well, then it's their loss and you're probably just a few clicks away from someone just as talented and willing to help you, and everyone that visits, out.

Ozmatix02/17/2009

picture 4 is amazing looks like time has stopped perfectly still.

Anonymous02/17/2009

Paolo, like I said, I'm flattered, but in the future I highly suggest asking photographers for permission. It's as simple as a flickrmail. You are making money off my photograph without my consent, simple as that. Some may be okay with that, but I guarantee you that a lot of people on flickr are not, specifically those that earn their livings by taking photographs. I am remaining anonymous because this is not about just my photo, it's about all the photographs above that you republished without the license to do so.

Frank02/17/2009

While there are many of us who would be happy just for the recognition, it is still a courtesy to ask for permission to republish the photos.

As mentioned by others above, there are many photographers out there making an effort to make a living at this craft. While they would also enjoy the exposure, photo theft has become more frequent nowadays. So a simple demand for permission to republish an "All Rights Reserved" photograph would greatly avoid any harsh feelings for even an innocent shout-out such as this.

It is also good practice to caption the photos with the artist's title and the name of the artist once you receive permission.

Anonymous02/17/2009

Using copyrighted images without permission is theft. It has nothing to do with making money. If someone posts a photograph to Flickr, you must check the copyright. And although you might be allowed, by the individual's permissions, to use a photo in your blog, it is a COMMON COURTESY to ask permission!

ASK PERMISSION! In this case, it is NOT better to ask forgiveness than permission, because you are committing a crime.

John02/17/2009

you really should just ask for permission, as b-dub states above. you may think you're doing the artists a favor, but you're getting paid by advertisers based on the content of your webpage...and you're using other people's art as your content. while it may be grey-area to some, the photos above represent the livelihood to those who took them. regardless of your intent (which i have no doubt was good), 'all rights reserved' means all rights reserved. unless you want someone taking your possessions without asking, i wouldn't recommend you do it either.

Anonymous02/17/2009

@Paulo Yes, it is theft. "All Rights Reserved" means you can't re-publish the work without permission.

And acting as if you are doing a favor for the photographer who complained? Please. The style of this post is straight up link bait.

PauloGabriel02/18/2009

Well, Abduzeedo has been doing that since the beginning... we had this discussion before. Now, we would really love to know which photos are not supposed to be here. If you people don't tell, I will not take 'em off, simple as that. Just point the pictures, people. And if necessary, we'll delete this post, no problems... but again, our intention is to share this amazing images with the online community. Not share as piracy, but sharing in the meaning that the author will get known for his work, since we link all the pictures. We never said these pictures were taking but Abduzeedo members. Anyways, we intend no harm... and don't want to cause a situation that bring out hard feelings. Once more, if anyone wants your picture out of here, ask for it, pointing the picture. cheers.

Anonymous02/18/2009

How about this for determining which photos should be posted here: ASK EVERYONE WHOSE PICTURE IS HERE! Then the ones who don't know you've stolen their shots will be able to tell you.

So, in answer to your question: if you did not ask permission, YOU ARE NOT ALLOWED TO POST THE PHOTO!

In other words: TAKE ALL THE PHOTOS DOWN UNTIL YOU ASK PERMISSION.

How difficult is this concept of theft to grasp?

Anonymous02/18/2009

I am flattered that you considered one of my pics worthy to show on your site.
But this is my work and I should be asked before you use it.
At the very least, there should be note of the photographer and copyright.
When I read the comment that someone was disappointed they could not download a higher res picture and print it to use on their wall, I wonder if they realize that is taking someone's property without permission!
If you are sophisticated enough to run this web page, you are sophisticated enough to know that is not ethical.
Those of us from Flickr have agreed to respect each others work as we share our thoughts and our art.
It would be nice if you did the same by asking permission and showing names and copyrights.

Richard M. Daley02/18/2009

Since you don't feel that the photographers who took these photographs deserve to be notified of the republishing of their work, I have notified them all and asked them to take any action they feel necessary. ALL of the photos above are marked "All Rights Reserved" as noted on the page. Therefore you are legally required to demand permission BEFORE publishing them. You would do well to keep this in mind the next time you consider reposting other people's work.

Anonymous02/18/2009

Paulo, I understand that you want to share some great photography with people BUT! You should have, as matter of courtesy asked for permission to post them up regardless if it is right or wrong. I was shocked to see my work up on this website without my consent.

If you did not intend to harm then you should intend to do the thing right and contact the owner of the photo 1st because harm has been done!

If you love photography as you say you do, why not show respect to the photographers who have taken these photos and get there permission 1st!

Frank Brauner02/18/2009

Paulo your point of view is too simple...

Please remove my photo or write down my name with a copyright statement, like on the other sites referencing my flickr photos...

PauloGabriel02/18/2009

Frank, thanks for identifying yourself. We've already put your name there. But one thing we don't understand, is why your picture have that button called "blog this" on it. That's the same question Abduzeedo did. Cheers.

sateprikker02/18/2009

WOW! just blew me away....
more than a 1000 words can say

abduzeedo02/18/2009

Hey guys, I've been following the comments and I have one question, why almost all of the images have the "Blog this" button in the Flickr Page then? I always use that to blog to other sites.

The idea of the blog is help the community to promote their works, we don't sell or use it for commercial purposes. But we really want to do the right thing, so if you want us to remove your photo from them list just let us know please.

Thanks a lot for the comments ;)

Anonymous02/18/2009

First of all..thank you so much to whoever postde me an email and tell me that my photo has been stolen!!!

I don'T want to tell which one is my photo but to be honest...i'm VERY ANGRY that you did not ask for my PERMISSION to post my art in your blog!!it's just simple..just ask...and i'll definetly give you the permission.

I know your purpose is to promote our photos...but you did it the wrong way..at least ask for PERMISSION first.

I hope you will delete all the photos and ask PERMISSION first from all the photographers above..if you got the permission..then upload it one more time..

It's a hard work and art from all of them.At least please appreciate it.

thanks!

John02/18/2009

Paulo and Abduzeedo,

You're missing the point. Yes, flickr has a 'blog this' button. You need to understand that's a feature of flickr, not something the photographer installed themself. Flickr also has an option where one can set the Creative Commons license. You seem intent on ignoring the later and using the former as an excuse to do so.

I'm glad that you took down the photos that people asked you to. I'm also glad that you chose to give credit above each photo.

I can only hope that you get where everyone is coming from here (a simple acknowledgment of that - which you've not yet done - would do wonders, i think) and will ask permission before posting other's art in the future.

Cheers.

PauloGabriel02/18/2009

Seriously, for me, an Anonymous person telling me that we're stelling and all that, isn't the author of any of these great pictures. Is just one of the many Abduzeedo haters out there. Since all the pictures posted here, now, got that "Blog this" button in Flickr, this discussion is OVER.

MartinodF02/19/2009

I like your site, i find many of your posts very inspiring, but personally I believe you're just plain wrong paulo and abduzeedo.

All rights reserved means ALL RIGHTS RESERVED.
The fact that there is a way (blog this) to republish their work doesn't mean that you are invited to, or even that you can. Try to tell someone from the music industry "yes, but since there was a download button the discussion is over"!

They are publishing their work under a license, which doesn't allow you to post it here. If you think they'll appreciate you "promoting" it, you still have to ask them first.

Your arguments make sense, but they have absolutely no legal validity. There are rules to be obeyed, and you should, because that's far more appreciated by copyright owners than "free advertising".

abduzeedo02/19/2009

Hey guys, next time we will contact the authors first then. Also if the authors want to remove their photos, just let us know.

Thank you.

Luis Montemayor02/26/2009

Thanks for the traffic and for adding one of my photos in this great selection of photos, since I don't make any money with my photos, this is my hobbie, feel free to use my photo, the credit is always welcome :D
