Great Examples of Colorful Gradients and 3D Effects in Logos
February 10, 2009
Currently, I'm working on 2 logos for different companies. One of them is my design studio, Zee (http://zee.com.br). My design process for logos is simple: firstly I brainstorm some ideas and keywords that have relation with the business of the logo I'm working on, then I look for images or ways to make those ideas and keywords real. Of course there are more steps, one of them is checking other logos, not only for reference or ideas, but also, and perhaps the most important, to see if I'm not doing anything that has already been done.
There are excellent sites that showcase logos, my favorite is Logopond. They have a huge number of logos in their gallery, very useful to see how other designers approach some subjects on designing logos.
Because of that I selected some of the best logos I found on Logopond that use colorful gradients and subtle 3D effects.

Awsome looking and very smart logos. Thanks for sharing!
I really do love this round up , thanks
Some really nice logos there. Using gradients really give them depth.
Very good, try to combine these tools to more good work.
The Sushi logo is my favorite!! :)
A brilliant collection of logos, I'm trying to re-brand myself at the moment - Some good inspiration here!
Tweeted the link too! :)
No one has beat the FOLD IT one in my opinion.
Stupid question maybe. But is it possible to use pantone color for gradient logos? Or is it just CMYK?
Yeah the sushi one is great, the fish are very well done. Also the public relations paper on looks simple but smart.
That's a great use of colours and gradients, the sensation of deep is great.
I like dark backgrounds with light colors in front. You can check the logo of this site http://mvcforge.com - a social news site for web developers, it's just plain simple blue and white with a little gradient effects.
Fantastic source of inspiration, I LOVE Fold It!
Great logos, I like them a lot ...
cool man :X tnx for sharing :)
"Great," "Colorful Gradients," and "Logos" don't ever belong in the same title.
None of those logos will hold up in a newspaper ad, fax, or copy.
Most of these logos are beautiful. Thanks!
These are really nice. Usually I avoid using gradients in logo design because they do lose their effect when scaled down. But then again the color variation does add a more dynamic feel, so it's a toss-up for me.
cool logo, nice...
very nice set! 'southcreative' my fav
love cymk garden and plastic whale, great collection!
Where's the new Woolworth?
Nice list. And these are nice logos. Except for the fact that every logo should be able to be black and white without any loss of clarity, and should be easily printed in black and white.
Gradients shouldn't be your crutch. You have to make sure your design can be expressed in just black and white as well.
Nice collection.
Gradients in a logo ... i like this works too and i think most of the designers of these logos know about the rules of logodesign and worked out some variations for special usage ... i hope at least!
Thanks for the inspiration!
Beautiful work - not just logos - but art as well.
Public Relation and Plastic Whale are my favourite
These are really really great. Awesome inspirations.
A really nice collection but a good logo should also work in black/white for fax etc.
And under this aspect most of them would just miserably fail.
Nevertheless a great use of colorful gradients and subtle 3D effects.
Regards
BORABORA
these are awsome designz
Nice logos, But I'm not sure whether they will still looks good if printed. Gradient is a bit tricky when it comes to print, even though it looks nice on the screen. These logos are best for a website logo.
@Frank Buynsters: you can't achieve the smooth gradient in Pantone (especially a gradient from one color to a different color), you must use CMYK.
These are nice gradient logo. =) "colorful"
Looking closely at the logo it is detailed a bit tricky somehow
but then the color variation of it add more dynamic sense.
I'm starting to take more care of Gradient and getting addicted with it when combined with Color Blending.
LaFayette is right.
And the six logos under Rentzilla. though easy on the eyes, are about as creative as an overhead highway sign.
me pareciera como si muchos de los isologotipos fueran parte de una misma fórmula de proceso y diseño. Pero no logro definir o descubrir cual... tu puedes?
Nice collection! There are so many standout logos here.
Hi Fabio Sasso
These're very smart and nice logo. I want to design Logo for PKD word but I still have no idea for this. Can't you help me?
