Incredible Vector Illustrations by Mel Marcelo

October 22, 2008

Today is the Vector day, we have the 5 great vector packs giveaway from Designious and now we feature the fantastic work of Mel Marcelo, an artist and illustrator living in Southern California.

The first time I saw his work was in one of those oackley ads and I was amazed by the quality of the illustrations.

I'm a starving artist/illustrator in Southern Cal (starving by choice). I love music. I love to run. I love to run to music. You can find me violently happy at any Starbucks or club/Rave/whatever dance floor.

For more information visit his flickr and myspace pages.

Incredible, what is very cool!

They look like LIVE TRACE renderings. Am I wrong?

wsizoo10/22/2008

WOW. Is that all done in photoshop? Is that considered vexel or is it all one in the same?

wyldfyer10/23/2008

thats some really good vectors..

redbox10/23/2008

wow...i think his a filipino (philippines)...

ardhian.satrya10/23/2008

Yep, I agree with Dustin. Most of the artworks look like live trace rendering from Illustrator. If he really do it from scratch and achieve those effects, then he must be really great!

akjeter10/23/2008

absolutely love the first and fourth one. Made a Dwight Howard Vector, took me over a month but it looked great. Amazingly fun to make and look at but incredibly time consuming and sometimes annoying to deal with.

abduzeedo10/23/2008

I think his work is really good, even if he did using the live trace the composition looks awesome.

Thanks for the comments ;)

Nice Post. I like the Seth Rogan Illustration. That beard is so detailed.

Interesting results, but I think a lot in these pieces was made automatically by software. Everybody can click buttons.

What is the font used in the poster of Obama "yes we can"?

Luigi Camperchioli02/02/2009

Great works! I like experimenting with vector as well. Then one I am most proud of is my Vector Parrot. You can see it on my website. It took me forever to do it, but I was happy with the results

Luigi Camperchioli02/02/2009

Leocda, I can tell they aren't made by "clicking buttons", and if you had a little experience with vector you'd see it too. Anyway, there is a simple way to double check that, and it's by looking at the wire frame, that never lies, you can tell in a second if something was live traced or not.
