Insane Digital Paintings of Vitaly Alexius

April 06, 2009

The digital paintings of Alexius are something out of this world, the scenarios that he creates make me think that the world has come to an end, and it's beautiful to see, so much inspiration and skills that you have to check by yourself.

I was born in the year 1984, in the industrial city of Novokuznetsk, located on the Tom River in south central Siberian Russia.
For the first four years of my life, I lived amidst coal mining and aluminum/steel production factories; in a city of European architecture covered with columns and arches, surrounded by Russian Taiga.

Since I was four years old, I have been drawing tiny starships and celestial life fascinated me. At four, I moved to the city of Novosibirsk, the capital of Siberia, with my parents. There, in a remote, forest covered, 'science community' district of Akademgorodok, at 11 years of age, I studied traditional drawing, watercolor/gauche/oil painting, anatomy, model building, design, art history and illustration at a great high-arts institution for two years, expecting a move to Moscow to further my studies.

On April 11/1998 fate has given me an unexpected twist and by means of aerial transportation I was thrown about 5555 miles across the Atlantic Ocean to Toronto, Canada, where I am currently residing, in my own lovely apartment east of Chinatown. After completing my OAC's at R. H. King Academy, I went on to the Ontario College of Art and Design, where I finished 2 years of “Environmental Design” and 2 years of "Illustration" program. Currently I'm in my Illustration Thesis year.

Since 2000, I’ve been tutoring on the subject of drawing and painting. In 2002, I've learned that magical program called Photoshop and have been using it ever since, to develop an innovative, digital-art style , which I gave a name - "Dreaminism".

Currently I'm working as a photographer and an illustrator, doing various: CD/book/comic covers, posters, concept art and etc.

Some of his work is also available as wallpaper on deviantart... See http://alexiuss.deviantart.com/gallery/ for those and more of his work...

I'm already using a wallpaper of him for more than 3 months now, that's a record for me!

Had to pick up my jaw for a second there. Wow! I love apocalyptic artwork!!! Vitaly, you are awesome.

DesignHim04/06/2009

I've seriously tried to get into this guys work... especially since he has his own studio corner at my university that he works in, so I'm reminded everyday that he's here. But the overkill with the smudge tool on buildings is getting old, really fast. He knows his stuff, but I haven't seen him grow at all as an artist in the 2 years that I've been familiar with his work.

I'd love for him to totally surprise me.

BrianPhilip04/06/2009

is it possible he can grow anymore? i probably wouldn't if i could make work like that! sweet job!!

DesignHim04/06/2009

Lmao. Think hard about what you just said Brian :P

Anonymous04/06/2009

Hahaha, Design's response to Brians post cracked me up.
Very awesome collection though!

Roman04/06/2009

DesignHim- have you seen Gary Taxali grow?
Once an illustrator develops an established style that sells worldwide for thousands of dollars, he just works in it, replicating it over and over.

Some artists grow into greater realism, some descend into abstract like Picasso and some stick with one style, one type of art, one medium.
A style can't get "old", it can only get more recognized.

abduzeedo04/06/2009

That's crazy, how they come up with those ideas? Very cool...

Ksini04/06/2009

u can never stop.

Jayve104/06/2009

Amazing!

Carlos B04/06/2009

Awesome illustrations!!!
I wonder if all of these are from natural talent, or if he shaped his style since he was 4 years old. Great illustrations.

blacker design04/07/2009

He knows how to use the blur tool that is for sure,
but as some people have argued, his work has been around for quite some time now, and its great it sure is. But where are the new things, where is the artistic growth in the work?

I would love to see some new peaces :D

thanks for sharing

Fantastic Art, really loved it

Roman:
I see what you're getting at, but growth doesn't limit itself to style alone. Even then, style can refine itself over time; it might be only slightly, but it's there. However, Alexius is essentially the same throughout. His subject matter never changes. Take away 2 essential images in an Alexius piece---clouds and buildings (or skulls... whichever you prefer). This automatically cuts the recognition of his art in half as far as I'm concerned.

Don't get me wrong though. I'm not hating on his work. He's still a young guy and there's a ton of room to grow. I guess I'm just tired of seeing the same shit over and over when I know that his talent can go a lot farther than what we've all see on the net in the past 2 - 3 years.

Black_Shadow_Man04/08/2009

Really good work!
if somebody ask me hows the world ends i only say
go see alexius....

Roman04/08/2009

DesignHim-
maybe, but lots of artists work on very specific themes, simply because they enjoy it.
That's like saying "stop photographing naked people, go take some photos of a fruit" to a photographer who does only nudes.
He just won't listen to you.

As evidences- Look, no buildings or clouds in this one:

You gota dig farther than 2 years, if you want to notice a style and theme change.

Rex06/22/2009

Wow. You're amazing.

You've really inspired me, and I love your tutorials. Your work is some of the best I've seen on the net! I love your style, and despite what some of the other people have said, I think you're heading in the right direction, and I can't wait to see what you'll do in the years to come.
