Inspiration by Super Heroes Color Schemes

Paulo - 03/14/2008

When we start thinking about a new design, one of the first things we start researching is cool colors that we might use. But how about researching Super Heroes color schemes?

Yes! We love comics. From DC to Marvel, and other indie studios as well. This time, I bring to you guys only the highest shots from the biggest studios. Time to get inspired!! Hope you like it.

Superman

Flash

Green Lantern

Wonder Woman

Green Arrow

Batman

Ironman

Captain America

Wolverine

Spiderman

A very interesting idea in terms of an alternative source of inspiration. The images are nicely selected to illustrate your point (no pun intended) and colour selection.

As a reader of comic books, and someone who is involved in marketing and graphics, I think anyone who takes your post as more or less than the above is missing the point.

Keep the ideas flowing!

Most of them don't seem to stray too much from the primary colours, other than Green Lantern, Green Arrow, and Batman really, and those just take variations of the same colour more than anything else. But still it's a neat idea.

I think people are under the impression that you drew these images, when you actually just took other peoples art and made some colored squares. This is a fairly worthless blog post and I don't understand how your crap keeps getting onto the digg front page. You do have some badass tutorials on psdtuts though. So, more photoshop tutorials, less worthless blog posts, kthnxbai.

I don't he once mentioned he drew them, idiot. Also: people who still say kthnxbai... are trolls who probably couldn't get a blog going, let alone get on Digg. Go back to your cave and use your brain for something worth contributing to society.

As for the post itself, pretty neat.

The Batman is drawn by Jim Lee and is from a story arch he did with Jeph Loeb called Hush. Its 12 or 13 issues and every panel looks like that or better. The Green Lantern is from the Rebirth story arch drawn by Ethan Van Sciver (he did a butt load of work of GL, its all beautiful). I can't remeber who did The Wolverine (I think a man with the last name Ramos but I'm really not sure) but that panel is from his Civil War tie in (if you don't know what that is Wiki Civil War Marvel). The art is all awesome but none of it is yours and the idea that each hero is only made up of 2 or 3 colors is pretty lame.

"I think people are under the impression that you drew these images..."

Is it possible this poster could be more of an idiot? Doubtful.. Perhaps *they* thought you drew these (which would explain their IQ deficiency.) ggkthxbai!

For those who don't know why Iron Man is holding Captain America's shield, there was this event, called the Civil War (not the history one), where mutants and gifted people were impeled to reveal their identities. That's enough to make 2 parties, those who do reveal, and those who will fight until the end to keep their identities secret, in order to preserve their families from attacks and stuff. Iron Man leads the ones who think that they must reveal. Captain America, the opposition... and at some point, people start calling him a traitor, because his is against US government... and finally gets killed by a sniper. And for all that Captain America meant to the US, Iron Man decides to carry on his badge. That's pretty much it.

I'm sorry, but comic book colour schemes are garish. It would be a mistake to look for inspiration in this industry.

Ignoring the anatomy mistakes, The Green Arrow example is the only one that didn't make my eyes bleed.

Captain America's color scheme is way off. I now he's suppose to be red-white-blue but the photo (and recent comics) doesn't use the brighter versions of these colors.
