Logo Design Trends

January 16, 2008

Every year we get to see all kinds of logos being made and, besides they're are plenty, most of them follow trends which are most notorious during the period of time when they were designed. It's an endless list of trends.

I'd like to present some trends that were really nice during the past years through excellent articles from LogoLounge. Who doesn't like making a logo that follows the latest trend? Being in the center of design hype is most time an assurance of a successful logo. There are different trends: color, shapes, fonts, etc. And by etc i mean that i can't actually name all of them. Too many indeed. So, let's check already trends from past years.

2004

2005

At LogoLounge.com we look at A LOT of logos and see plenty of trends: Some are aesthetic, some conceptual, and some cultural. As the internet's largest database of logos – over 50,000 to date – you can't help notice the evolution of design – and trends. By Bill Gardner

2006

2007

So now i'd like to know from all of you, what do you think will be the trends on 2008. Maybe numbers? Rainbows? Dragons? What do you think?

trend gets simple day to day

The trend will be away from mindless abstracts toward more meaningful symbols. I'll add that to my list of people attracting ideas.

Simply, Glossy, and inveted colors within (ex. youtube logo with the text red, then inverts to the white and the white background inverts to red)

P.S. i know its not technically a color invert as you'd see in a PS filter, but more of a 'switch' i guess you'd call it.

I do not think gradients will be a factor!
Most people are over them (like me).

I would not be surprised if we see a trend going back to 2004 or a year or two earlier. Everything seems to go in trends..

Great post, it's fun to look at the recent history of logo trends. I think at some point logos are going to get "dirtier" and more grungy looking. With the crisp/clean feeling of recent trends, there must be some counter-reaction on the horizon that is really going to stand out against the current designs. Perhaps similar to the "Urban Vinyl" you describe, but maybe taken a step further, too. I may be thinking more along the lines of web design though, because logos do require a certain level of cleanliness in order to be easily reproduced at various sizes.

I'm a new subscriber to the blog, found it from a Web Designer's Wall post, glad to be here!

Definitely gradients! ^^
In the last year they all got to love them - as I did.

Gradients and simple, shiny logos like the '.mac' or the 'Sony Ericsson'.

But I also dig the brown Urban Vinyl-Logo in the middle (last box)!
