The Perfect Office #49

August 09, 2010 from PauloGabriel's blog

We've seen some great gadgets and equipment for designers. So many cool stuff, that we could actually assemble infinite perfect office spaces! Every week we'll assemble a perfect office, and we'd like you to help us. What equipment would the perfect office have?

Not only gadgets and equipment, but also furniture, sound system, gaming stuff (for lunch time!). A designer is totally allowed to dream with the perfect office, and that's what we're gonna do here! Also, tell us your suggestions, or even better, you may tell us via twitter (mine and fabio's), using #abdz_ofc so we can check it. Alright? I hope you guys enjoy this brief selection. Cheers! ;)

A great little accessory that makes mobile computing more comfortable, Mini Riser is the most compact laptop riser you'll come across. Made from bendable wire that makes it adjustable to fit any laptop, and features rubber bumpers that hold your laptop and the stand securely in place. You can easily slip it in your laptop's bag without worrying it'd take a lot of space. (at Holy Cool)

New IKEA 2011

The 2011 IKEA catalog is out now. Above, the VIKA VEINE top (white or black-brown) and VIKA MOLIDEN legs combo is pretty sweet. I love that you can fold the top down and hide your mess away. The inside is lined with felt and has little pockets and such for your pens and papers. There’s also a power strip in the back to help organize your cables. (at Design Milk)

Cooler Master Inferno MMO Gaming Mouse

The Perfect Office #49

The Inferno has 128kb of onboard memory to store profiles and macros so drivers aren’t needed. The mouse has 11 buttons that can all be programmed. Using software, the total buttons available for programming expands to 32.

Other features of the mouse include a 1ms response time, 1000Hz polling, and a maximum speed of 115 inches per second. The mouse uses a right hand design. Pricing and availability are unknown. (at Slash Gear)

Samsung FX2490HD monitor

The Perfect Office #49

Samsung's updating its SyncMaster monitors today with the new premium LED backlit 90 series. Most notable is the 24-inch FX2490HD model with integrated TV tuner and inputs in the form of 2x HDMI, D-Sub, and even SCART for Europe -- sorry, no mention of DVI or DisplayPort that we can find. The panel itself sports a 1920 x 1080 pixel resolution, 5ms response, 1,000:1 contrast, and 250 nits of brightness. Akihabara News adds a few details such as PiP support, a jack for viewing media direct from USB sticks, and support for 7.1 channel Dolby Digital and DTS audio. (at Engadget)

Eurocom B5100M FOX, B7110 FOX Laptops

The Perfect Office #49

Last we heard from Eurocom, it was touting its massive, workstation-class X8100 Leopard "laptop," and its now back with a pair of models that are considerably more consumer-friendly -- and gamer-friendly, specifically. Those include the 15.6-inch B5100M FOX and 17.3-inch B7110 FOX, which each pack NVIDIA's Optimus graphics-switching technology (complete with a GeForce GT330M GPU), and a range of other fully customizable options that cover the mid to high-end -- your choice of Core i3, i5 or i7 processors, up to 16GB of DDR3 RAM, and support for two hard drives for up to 1.6TB of storage, to name just a few options. Fantastic Disintegration Effect inspired by Watchmen in Photoshop
Last week I went to the movies to see Watchmen, an amazing movie with beautiful special effects. However, one in special caught my attention. It was the Dr. Manhattan transformation, so I decided to create something inspired by that scene using Photoshop. In this tutorial I will show you how to create the disintegration effect using brushes and the blur filter. It's really simple and you will be able to create nice designs using this sort of trendy style of effect.

Book Suggestion: Typology - Type Design From Victorian Era to the Digital Age
The book suggestion of the week is one of my favorites, it's called Typology: Type Design From Victorian Era to the Digital Age and it covers a lot of art history always linking with types and typography. It's a must read for those starting out their careers or even willing to dust off their typology and typography skills. About the book
