Terry Richardson is one of my (if not "the") favourite photographer who's still alive. His mother - a stylist and dancer - brought him into the fashion scene, he grew up very poor. When he still was very young he had played in a punkband with the name "Doggy Style", when on tour he started photographing. You can imagine that this is a very different artist from what you know so prepare that you find some nudity, when your at work.

Known for his uncanny ability to cut to the raw essence of whomever appears before his lens, Mr. Richardson's vision is at once humorous, tragic, often beautiful, and always provocative.

Damn, I didn't know it was this guy taking all these photos I've seen! He's amazing. To be able to take all these raw images is quite a feat. I guess it makes some people uncomfortable lol.

can anyone explain the allure of this? this is everywhere, nothing beautiful (except the face of josie maran), nothing different , you dont need pictures to see this everywhere (except for a little naked man)... really! ..who wants to see mccauley spitting ?????? No offense.

And he just loves his white-wall-background-strong-flash set up.
Taking pics of weird and disgusting stuff doesn't make you a great photographer. It makes you weird...

Indeed i like it because its different and real. His Add work is also verry good.
These are great photos. I agree I wasn't much in the mood to see a naked guy but whatever. He has his own style and saying it's not art is ridiculous.
I really loved his photos but the more I think about him as 'being able to catch the essence' of someone... I think he is just a very revered photographer and anyone who steps in front of his lens feels obligated to 'act' as society perceives them...
Photography is how to capture the moment at that given time.. not an orchestration of time...
His photos seemed too planned out...
I think the majority was trying to capture imperfection and even a corrupted lifestyle, and Richardson does it well.
Great post.
The point of his work is not to appeal to everyone, he looks for the things that raise hairs on your neck and make you feel uncomfortable.

Been visiting the site for years, excellent post, and I've got to say he hits the mark 100% of the time with his subject and framing.
Regards to the nature of the post, hardly "controversial" material in here, the same stuff that's fueling magazine circulation in the past 5 years. Much appreciated reprise from this tissue-paper series of posts, flooded with deviant art (not all bad).
I wouldn't make these sorts of posts a habit, for obvious reasons, but good job!

I don't understand why people have to say they never hope to see something like this again on here? I thought is was a interesting post, even though some of the Jackass pictures were not my cup of tea. (Although, the one of Bam made me smile alot.)
I actually think it was a good post! It was nice to learn about a photographer who is willing to push these photos into the world :D
Richardson's work is good; but ultimately just sad. There seems to be no depth or substance. If there is, then I cant find any. I guess he's interested in finding sad nature of his subjects and crossing the lines between exploitative and pornographic... National Enquirer anyone?
With each image I keep wanting to say, "Come on man, tell me something I don't know!"
i don't like how he dident atleast crop the top rings of his backround and his flash is to bright it makes it to flat and alot seem out of focus aswell as grainy

Wow, I can't believe you guys are complaining because you saw a naked midget. Relax and get with the times. The photos have a raw quality which is hard to acquire successfully. I these were great.

I'm so glad I found this article. I'm glad that my appreciation of artwork hasn't become so anal that I can't admire work that's almost satire as much as it's controversial and unpleasant.
