Autumn happens to be my most savored time of year. When the days start to turn crisp, the leaves begin their annual, vibrant encore to the end of summer and Pumpkin Spiced everything is back in style. We don't experience too much majesty in terms of fall foliage here on the West Coast so David Pluimer's collection of shots from his national and international travels will have to do the trick. Enjoy David's beautiful shots of this renaissance of nature and learn a bit more behind the science of why leaves change colors below. Also, be sure to check out David's personal site for more beautiful work by this Zionsville, Indiana based photographer. "Autumn is a second spring when every leaf is a flower." - Albert Camus Why do leaves change their colors? Chlorophyll is not the only player in the fall leaf color game. Present in other leaves and trees are the compounds known as Carotenoids and Anthocyanins. As the Fall days begin to get shorter and shorter, the production of Chlorophyll slows to a hault, eventually giving way to the ‘true’ color of the leaf. About David Pluimer I'm a born and raised Hoosier. My profession is insurance. For over 12 years I travelled the US following natural disasters, including nine months in New Orleans after Katrina. My education is in agriculture. I'm a husband. My beautiful wife is an attorney and one of the good guys. I have two daughters - one that flies and one that runs. I've thrown the first pitch at a Minor League baseball game. I've travelled to Europe but not Asia. In 1994 I performed with Jim Nabors at the Indy 500 (along with about 250 other people). I consider donuts a food group. In my free time, I make photos.
Sadly but summer is definitely over...I mean for those living in North! I will try not to think too much about Winter just yet. Instead, let's enjoy the beautiful colours of Fall/Autumn which we adore before the actual cold. Let's travel to Germany with photographer Kilian Schönberger so we can discover the beautiful colours of Autumn captured through Kilian's camera and digital photography. Hope you will like this one! Kilian Schönberger is a professional landscape and architect photographer based in Cologne, Germany. You should definitely follow via Behance for more of his photography works. Autumn at the lake - a tribute to the hidden beauty of fading colours at the lakeside of one of the many beautiful lakes in north-east Germany. The quiet water surface is like a mirror of life. The reflection captures endless moments of reality like thousands and thousands of photos. The real and the mirrored world, the evanescent appeal of autumn - a strong subject of vanitas to me. The last week has introduced a crispness in the air and dried leaves on the ground that depict the quintessential feeling of autumn in the northern hemisphere. With the exception of the perpetually foggy San Francisco, the season is a most welcome guest to the hot, humid days of summer. This post was inspired by that lovely feeling the autumn evokes. We hope you enjoy this selection of imagery from around the globe and are encouraged to capture and share your very own individual fall scene.
