Today we're going to do our first graffiti Case study, so for this occasion I had the pleasure to hang out with one of the most notable graffiti artists from Brazil, Jotapê Pax. For more than 10 years Jotapê has being doing graffiti thru the home town from the Abduzeedo team (Porto Alegre), one thing I always noted was his signature drawing, I little black fly. Well, to be more specific let me show you some of the artworks where these fly appears: Spray techniques are really though to master, Jotapê has been doing it for a long time and so he could explain me how to achieve such final effect. Bellow I,m going to explain the steps that he take to create his flies. The process Step 1 (Shape) Jotapê always start his fly by drawing the shape of the eyes, the body, the drip and the wings (sometimes he rather doing the wings later), this step is basically a rough of how will be the final work. Step 2 (Fill) In this step he would paint all the body with a black fill, leaving the eyes circles intact. Step 3 (Color) Using white and orange (or other color), he would paint the eyes and make the reflect on the body, this may look strange and blurry at this point, but later he will adjust it. Step 4 ("Recorte" / Cutting) In Brazil we call this technique "recorte" that means cutting in english, "recorte" is when you adjust the lines and shapes of the work by using the color of the background, giving a better definition and a sharper look to it. Here Jotapê used the black color from the fill to adjust the eyes and make the division on the body. Step 5 (Lights/ Reflects/ Transparencies) Is really common to add lights and reflects after the "recorte", it's like a final touch to the piece. Jotapê normaly add some lights on the eyes and some transparencies on the wings. Ok, enough talking, let's see how the pro do it! On the video bellow you can see all the steps (not exactly on the same order) of how Jotapê do he's remarkable fly. Black Fly by Jotapê Pax from Marcos Torres on Vimeo. Let's see one more time, from a different spot. Let's see another fly he did on the same day on a different type of wall, this one was dedicated to our website :) Black Fly II by Jotapê Pax from Marcos Torres on Vimeo. A huge thanks to Jotapê Pax for giving us the opportunity to see how he do his work closely. If you want tosee more of his work and know more about him, you can acess his Flickr.

Blackbox is a night club in Romania, the place is a project from the group of architects Parasite Studio. The name shows the concept of the project, a black box, with no relation to the outside and plenty of abstract elements to maintain the attention only to the things happening inside the club. All spaces are very similar, with colored lines that cut through walls, floor and roof, fusing with the inclined pillar structure of the club. A place to go mad or even go beyond creativity. Seeing the photos I can feel the electronic sound just looking to the shapes and the psychedelic colors, almost begging for a place full of people dancing. All the furniture were created exclusively for the Blackbox, which demonstrates the concern of being a unique place. The design proposal started from generating a completely black box, as well as a shape and as a concept, an abstract space that doesn’t breathe towards the outside world but keeps locked within the memory of events. © Courtesy of Parasite Studio © Courtesy of Parasite Studio © Courtesy of Parasite Studio © Courtesy of Parasite Studio © Courtesy of Parasite Studio © Courtesy of Parasite Studio The strong colors chosen for highlighting the space set landmarks in the black surrounding. For the whole interior design we strived to create a strong conceptual identity around the theme of the Blackbox, defining all the elements that make up the whole, the logo, the furniture ant the entire interior context. - Parasite Studio © Courtesy of Parasite Studio © Courtesy of Parasite Studio © Courtesy of Parasite Studio © Courtesy of Parasite Studio © Courtesy of Parasite Studio © Courtesy of Parasite Studio © Courtesy of Parasite Studio © Courtesy of Parasite Studio
Friday is here and as usual, we're bringing something to cheer you up a little bit, and I guess that a fresh new image hanging on your desktop helps to do just that. Here's a cool selection I've made from wallpapers I found around the web. These are really beautiful and I bet you all will love it. I chose one of these... the best in my rumble opinion. Which one will you choose? Enjoy! ;) And my choice. ;p
A really small act is able to cheer you up and increase your productivity: changing your desktop wallpaper at least once a month. And that's simply because no one likes to fall into a daily routine (even with such a small thing), and if you keep the same wallpaper for too long, you'll get bored really easily. With that in mind, I've selected some beautiful black wallpapers from some of my favorite websites. Some are photographs, some are illustrations... but all of them will most definitely increase your satisfaction during work hours. So here's my selection, I hope you enjoy these. Cheers! ;)
This post shows 20 stunning & poignant designs using only black and white. Get inspired by a variety of modern designs and illustrations by top creatives & artists.
Following our great Black Week, today we featured only works exposed at DeviantART, a great place for inspiration and references. These images are really great, and I bet you'll really enjoy them. And of course, I'm still thinking about tomorrow's Black post. Any suggestions? Web Design, Wallpapers and DeviantART are done, we need at least 2 more topics. Help us define these 2!! And again, give some love to the artists by visiting each one's portfolios. Hope you like it. Cheers! ;) Mark Brooks asuka111 Tobias Kwan Ketmara Darkrose42 Christoffer Habter mclean Jose Carlo G. It's been some time since we had our last post on the Web Design series. We've been giving you a lot of graphic design inspiration, but it's time to get some web awesomeness. Yesterday we had black wallpapers, today, it's all about black layouts. In August 28th we had the first Black Layouts post, and it was a big success! And since we've featured Black wallpapers yesterday, we've decided that once in a while we'll make a color week. This is the beginning, the Black Week! And tomorrow we'll get more of black design inspirations! Hope you all enjoy my selection... I had a hard time finding these. Cheers! ;)

Black is one of my favorite colors, and one thing I really like is to rock a black t-shirt with some cool design. I went around some big t-shirt sites and found some really cool designs, I would definitely wear them all. So which one do you like the most?
Following our hit series about Web Design, today I bring to you only awesome black layouts! Man, I love these... It's incredible how a layout can get beautiful with darker colors. And of course, when you work with black, the right colors will bring just the right contrast. Lime-green, Orange, Electro-Pink... most shocking colors will bring awesome life to the layout. Of course, checking this sites you'll get to see many examples of how to apply colors in a black layout. Some of these are not pure black, 'cause if I start to name all the shades of black, grey and other monochromatic colors I'm gonna enter an eternal loop. So, I just hope you all enjoy my selection. Cheers!! ;) And of course, the best black layout ever.
