Kurtz NYC based designer, mixed media artist and recent author of 1 Page at a Time and Pick Me Up. Adam Kurtz gave us the inside scoop on ‘doing it yourself, and seeing how it goes’, how kickstarter can actually kickstart your projects and that anyone can do it, if he can. If i could leave you with any piece of advice today, it would be that fuck... If i can do it, you can fucking do it too. Furious Creators Thomas Weil & Quentin Weisbuch of Graphic Design & Art Direction studio, Furious covered the in’s and out’s behind the delicious project, Fat & Furious Burger that helped kick start their careers. Along with covering some of their other projects that center around design, culture, architecture and of course food. We believe less is more. Making is a part of thinking and feeling Velvet Spectrum Luke Choice, a.k.a Velvet Spectrum is a creative Studio focused on 3D design, type, and animation. Originally from Australia, Choice is now currently designing out of Los Angeles, CA. Luke talked us through the evolution of his past and present projects, inspiring collaborations with other artists and what’s next to come. ... it’s so much easier and much more fun to make balls bounce on real stairs… that should be a quote ...and in the words of the Great Shia Labeouf — … just do it. Make your dreams come true! Gary Baseman Gary Baseman, self proclaimed pervasive artist tells the story of his influential family heritage, upbringing, and many life experiences that have subconsciously shaped his art and career over the years. Continuously blurring the lines between what’s real and what’s fantasy, Baseman goes through the plethora of projects he’s undertaken, from his hit TV show: Teacher’s Pet, the process behind some of his publications for New York Times, Rolling Stones, Wall Street Journey, to list a few...along with his collaborations with COACH, ready-to-wear for Spring line and his latest documentary “Mythical Creatures”. I realized i had to define my art in my own title. So i used the word pervasive art, and pervasive in english means that’s its perceived everywhere and for me as an artist… I think we have an obligation and a need to work in all mediums, all mediums that have existed, all mediums new, and that we invent. To be able to get our message across... Final Words OFFF isn’t just all talk though, there was plenty of fun work-shop stations, pop-ups and mouth watering food trucks to choose from over the jammed packed, three day conference. This November 15th, our good friend James White from Signalnoise will be heading to Portland, Oregon for a speaking event, presented by Spaceman Design and AIGA Portland. Everything took place when James started his Gum Cards Initiative and Portland based designer Dave Hardy pledged on the fundraising as the Diamond Package. One of the prizes of the pledge was that James will be going to wherever your city and make a Design Renegade Talk. Portland was the winner! All Rights to Dave Hardy About the Event In order to reach our goals in the upside-down world of graphic design, you need to be a rogue. A misfit. A renegade. James White from the Signalnoise Studio has based his career on doing things outside of the ordinary, turning his back on boardrooms and creative briefs in order to chase his design dreams with vengeance and rock n’ roll. He will be telling his story while discussing personal projects built from love and ambition in his small home office in Dartmouth, Nova Scotia. These led to him working with respected people all over the world, from his favourite metal band to film juggernaut Kevin Smith. James will talk about chasing your creative path, building your personal body of work, the value of supporting friends, and never forgetting the artist inside. Being “different” isn’t enough anymore. You need to be a renegade! For more information about Dave Hardy and AIGA Portland, you can visit their websites at SpaceManDesign.com and AIGA Portland at AigaPortland.org. This year I will finally have the opportunity to go to the TRImarchiDG, probably the biggest graphic design event of Latin America. It will take place in Mar del Plata, Argentina from the 19th to the 21st of October. The latin american graphic design has finally found its meeting point. Year by year it has been taking shape into what today is known as the biggest design meeting of Latin America. We're talking about the sixth edition of TRImarchiDG. With humble beginnings, its first year gathered 400 people in an auditorium facing the ocean. Today we're waiting for more than 5000 people from all over Argentina, many american countries and even Europe. They will all get together from the 19th to the 21st of october in the Stadium Polideportivo of Mar del Plata, a city located 400kms south of Buenos Aires. I look forward to seeing some very good designers such as the guys from Büro Destruct, No Domain, Superstudio, Design-Tourist and many more. The complete list of speakers and all information about the event can be found at http://www.trimarchidg.net/ Anyway, if anyone is heading to TRImarchiDG and wants to meet up let me know. Also I would appreciate if anyone who's been there, has tips on things to do, places to go or anything else.
