Unfold Series is an ongoing form experiment inspired by the phenomenon of morphogenesis (from Greek, “beginning of the shape”, the biological process that causes an organism to develop its shape). My aim with this study is to create large scale audio/visual installations as a type of kinetic sculpture using light and sound. I created this particular version for Prizma Group Show 02 and experimented with light on the flat surface of printed canvas as step one, before moving to work on physical application of the form. Adam Spizak never ceases to impress us with his incredible and inspiring work. Today we share the illustration he created for Adobe Cannes Lions to celebrate Photoshop's 25th anniversary. As usual the composition is full of details mixing light effects, 3D and a lot of style. Every time I see this type of work I get motivated to spend some of my spare time playing with Photoshop to one day get to that level. Adobe Cannes Lions is an illustration produced for 2015 Cannes Lions International Festival of Creativity. Adam is a Senior Designer, Art Director based in London, United Kingdom. A few weeks ago we posted a super cool poster created by Flavio Montiel. Today we share another great work from this talented art director, digital artist and illustrator from Brazil. The title of the artwork is 'Starfleet Jerks' and the reason it deserves this feature is, in my opinion, the beautiful light effects mixed with textures and that always pleasant retro look. Yesterday while checking my Facebook I saw this awesome time-lapse video that Rik Oostenbroek posted capturing a behind the scenes of peek of his project for Nike Total Football. The end result is quite beautiful, as we always expect from Rik. Seeing how he creates these amazing illustrations is not only amazing but really inspiring. I learned a couple of new tricks just by checking it, you should do the same. Nike asked me to stay true to my own personal style and experiment with it and go crazy. The concept was based on the dynamics and fluent movement of the total football from the Dutch total football, as introduced at the World-Cup 1974. One thing I've always wanted to learn but have never been able to focus on was 3D. Despite the lack of skills in this field I still love checking out 3D work that designers put together on Behance and other websites. The project So Hexy is one of these projects, a really cool mix of 3D with an awesome idea, the hexagons creating cubicle areas. The project was created by Anatoly Bazarob and it's definitely worth checking it out. Hello! My name is Anatoly Bazarob (Kid Cut), i'm 24 years old designer from Moscow. I got job at local studio, but freelance is so deep in my soul, that I can say it "goodbay". On weekends I draw my 3D-fantasy, by the way, there is my "magnum opus" — concept of level-design videogame about hex. Each room is a single level based on that geometrical figure. Pay attention — every room name have reference to "hex". Weekend, vacations, cold evenings — it's all i need :)
The guys from Ars Thanea never seize to impress us with outstanding work. Every time they share a new project its the same thing, I check it and get blown away by the level of detail and the quality of the execution. The Ash is not different, again a beautiful composition, great art direction and skills. Check it out after the break. We all dream sometimes, about something we want to have or do. Luckily, if we have enough patience, a real willingness and at least a pinch of determination we are able to make our dream come true. Our experience has also thought us to have the best and the right people beside you, because they are the main ingredient of every success. So this time we wanted to share with you guys a result of an idea and a great cooperation to make it real. “The Ash” - came to our minds as a simple thought - glowing roses - maybe as a some kind of symbol or maybe as a simple whim. I haven't watched the new Mad Max movie but that won't last too long. Tomorrow I will be hitting the theater to end this wait. One thing that I always loved about the Mad Max series is the car line up, especially Max's. This new movie looks like another win with an array of incredible steam/punk vehicles complete with beautiful explosions sure to be a feast to the eye. This post features a gallery of vehicles that are present in the movie. These images were shared by Eduardo Valdivieso a Los Angeles based Creative Director and Illustrator. He is the co-founder of TheFlock.com, an online marketing agency that focuses on entertainment industry campaigns. For more information check out http://www.trozostudio.com/
Game of Thrones is probably the most popular TV series right now and despite the fact that I am not a fan of the show I have to say that I love the aesthetics and art direction of the show. In this post I want to share this really cool project that Sven Sauer posted showing some beautiful Matte Painting he did for the show. Swven Sauer is a digital artist specialized in Matte Painting. For more information check out http://www.mattepainting-studio.com/ The original book gives the reader just enough insight into the past of its world, that the viewer begins to spin it further autonomously. Shadows of a much more tremendous history reveal their existence by small hints and details. For the construction of the world of Game of Thrones, there are always hints of past times, kingdoms and lost homes in the novel. "Game of Thrones has given us the chance to create a whole world. But the series leads us to places which had to be built arduously. This process took several months to be completed. Films are always a deal, a kind of agreement between the filmmakers and the audience. Filmmakers create a world, and the audience gets involved in this creation. This pact will only work if it obeys certain laws. Perhaps the most important law is: nothing in our world exists without a past! Our environment is always peppered with details of past events. These details make the world tangible and authentic. This is exactly what pertains to our pictures. A good Matte Painting is full of memories, telling stories about the past." As a fan of sci-fi and the space subject it is always awesome to see other designers sharing the same love. For this post I would like to feature the work created by Flavio Montiel using Cinema 4D and Photoshop. The project is titled Astro Metal Front and as you can see it's beautiful. For more information about Flavio Montiel check out http://www.flaviomontiel.com I’ve been kinda obsessed with sci-fi / space stuff latelly, and it’s been a while since i wanted to do some astronauts like portraits before i move on.
Ultima is a body of work that is deeply rooted in environmentalism, showing my concern for the future by depicting the ways in which mankind’s creations have an impact on the planet. Primarily it is about the modern conflict between the manmade world and the natural world, and between modern and primitive cultures. For more from Nick Pedersen visit nick-pedersen.com. I portray this as an epic struggle and in my work these forces clash in theatrical, post-apocalyptic battlegrounds. My goal with this project is to create striking juxtapositions between the ruins of modern civilization and a futuristic ecological utopia. The narrative progression shows a rediscovery of these remnants belonging to the conceivably forgotten past. We have featured the work of André Luiz de Castro a couple of times here on Abduzeedo, you might remember the really cool Wallpaper of the Week posts in the past. Today we feature a super cool project that involves dragons but not any dragon, we are talking about the Smaug, wicked dragon from the Hobbit. The work was done using ZBrush and Photoshop and took around 35 hours. For me it would have taken 35 months. Smaug is a fictional dragon and the main antagonist in J. R. R. Tolkien's 1937 novel The Hobbit. He was a fearsome dragon who invaded the Dwarf kingdom of Erebor 150 years prior to the events described in the novel. A group of 13 Dwarves mounted a quest to take the kingdom back, aided by the wizard Gandalf and the Hobbit Bilbo Baggins. Smaug is described as "a most specially greedy, strong and wicked worm" For more information about André check out his website at https://www.behance.net/synthesys ZBRUSH & Photoshop - Making Of Stills Process
Last week we had some really exciting news in terms of movie trailers, first the new Star Wars: Episode VII - The Force Awakens and a couple of days later the new and super anticipated Batman vs Superman: Dawn of Justice. I am looking forward to both movies, in special the new Batman, however Star Wars is looking fantastic and to get us even more excited I would like to share the work of Riyahd Cassiem titled Darth Vader. Riyahd Cassiem is freelance artist, specializing in 2D and 3D visual development for the entertainment industry. For more information check out http://riyahdart.blogspot.com/
The last couple of weeks I have been reading some books about space and physics and it really fascinates me to think the grandiosity of our cosmos. At the same time it frights me the idea of how small and ephemeral our existence is relative to the universe and its immensity. Anyways, the idea of space has been always present on this blog, and we always feature projects that explore the theme and the sci-fi subject. Today we bring this really cool personal project created by Lukasz Wiktorzak titled Collier. Whole 3d scene was made in 3d max and rendered via Vray. I used Zbrush to improve rocks and some elements developed by Nick Govacko in his kitbash set to get more interesting design of drill. Postproduction in Photoshop and Nuke. Enjoy! My weekends are always good time to surf the web and find inspiring work. It didn't take too look for me to find Alexey Kashpersky amazing 3D and illustration work. Alexey graduated from the National Technical University in his native town of Poltava (Ukraine) and earned a degree as Master of Visual and Decorative and Applied Arts with honors. We have been posting a lot about UI, UX and mobile design if you noticed, one of the reasons is because we believe that is a very important area of design and in particular, one that has a lot of opportunities.
