(at Like Cool) Oxymoron Desk After much research, architect and designer Anna Lotova set out to create a workspace for the home that was both pleasurable to work at but also functional. During the research phase, Lotova discovered that people often found typical desks boring, uncomfortable, and cluttered, so her solution – the OXYMORON desk. (at Design Milk) Lightsaber Battery Charger You can run, and you can hide, but your phone is still going to die half way through the day. You can’t fight the urge to play games and see what’s going on in the world through social media either. Of course, being afraid of your phone dying is only fear of the inevitable, which will lead to anger, hate, and suffering over the fact that battery life on all phones is just terrible. If you want to skip those steps, but still wouldn’t mind being on the dark side, then the Star Wars Darth Vader Lightsaber Portable Battery Charger might be of interest to you. Yes, it does have red LED inside that will light up, but no, it will not slice through most everything in the universe. It has a battery capacity of 2800mAh, which means it won’t leave you out in the cold should you be a bit too excessive with playing Candy Crush on any given day. The Perfect Office - Siberia Elite Headset, Sony 4K Camcorder, Alienware Steam Machine and Office Ideas

We've seen some great gadgets and equipment for designers. So many cool stuff, that we could actually assemble infinite perfect office spaces! Every week we'll assemble a perfect office, and we'd like you to help us. What equipment would the perfect office have? This week we've selected a bunch of amazing things for you! For those who enjoy quality sound for their music, there's the JBL Authentics Speakers and also the Steel Series Siberia Elite headset, which looks amazingly comfortable. If you're looking for the next gen camcorder, the Sony 4K will do the job for you! And my favorite pick in this Perfect Office is more of a leisure time item: the Alienware Steam Machine! Looks AWESOME. Thanks to our sponsors, The Gadget Flow and 7 Gadgets! Multi Functional Coat Rack A multifunctional coatrack with two design features. A simple shelf that rests on three of the screw in pegs adds a unique twist, enabling the user to keep personal items close to hand so they are not forgotten. The other feature is that it is made using wood offcuts to demonstrate the uniqueness of the wood and how it can be used with minimal industrial involvement, meaning it doesn't have to be machined into straight grained boards to be a functional, attractive piece of furniture. (at Design Spotter) Kanex simpleDock The Kanex simpleDock is a 3-in-1 solution that includes a Gigabit Ethernet port, charging station and a 3-port USB 3.0 hub. The best part is that it packs so much functionality into an incredibly small space and makes it look good too. The zinc alloy of the simpleDock perfectly matches your MacBook. The charging dock keeps your iPhone or iPad handily accessible at all times and not just while it’s charging. To top it off, the mess of charging cables is gone. Your desk is now painfully neat and orderly, and it looks great with the simpleDock and your MacBook in matching colors. If that’s not enough, the three USB 3.0 ports and Gigabit Ethernet port allow you to transfer data and sync devices at lightning-fast speeds of up to 5 Gbps. (at The Gadget Flow) JBL Authentics Speakers The most impressive thing about the JBL Authentics Speakers isn't their looks, though they are gorgeous in walnut or gloss black finishes — and it's not their sound, though they do sound great with either four or six speakers and 30-50 watts of power. The most impressive thing isn't even hardware, it's software: Signal Doctor by Harman software. This tech allows the speakers to instantly repair the audio signal from digital music in real time, letting your MP3s and other compressed media sound their absolute best. Additional features include wireless connectivity over WiFI, DLNA, AirPlay, and Bluetooth, USB charging ports, and the JBL MusicFlow app that lets you easily control playback on iOS or Android. (at Uncrate) Steel Series Siberia Elite The iconic design of the Siberia headsets has been a favorite among gamers for many years. The Siberia Elite carries on that tradition with an all-new take on that classic look and feel. SteelSeries was the first to bring the retractable microphone to gaming headsets. We made the comfort and fit of the suspension headband renowned around the world. We are doing it again. This is Siberia. This is Elite. (at Steel Series) Sony 4K Camcorder So you went out and bought yourself a brand new 4K TV — congratulations, take a moment to sit back and admire all those pixels. Though at this point you've probably come to the realization that there just isn't much video out there to let you take advantage of it (at least until Netflix starts streaming their original content in Ultra HD). Instead of waiting for the rest of the world to catch up with you, you might as well just make your own with the Sony FDR-AX100/B 4K Camcorder. This remarkable little video camera is capable of capturing video far in excess of normal HD resolution, with a 14 megapixel sensor, a Carl Zeiss lens, and a BIONZ X processor. And once you've shot a few videos worth being proud of, go ahead and use the built-in WiFi and NFC connectivity to pair it with your phone, and share with any of your friends lucky enough to be able to watch them — we're sure they'll thank you for it. (at Uncrate) Alienware Steam Machine Forget next-gen consoles — if Valve has their way, 2014 will be the year of the Steam Machine. And with 14 companies cranking out the boxes, it's not as easy as buying, say, a PS3. Which is why we've got our eyes on the Alienware Steam Machine. Crafted by one of the most trusted names in PC gaming, this sleek black box will be powered by an Intel CPU and Nvidia GPU, and will (of course) run SteamOS, giving you access to tons of games running natively, and thousands more available via in-home streaming. It's like a HTPC, evolved. (at Uncrate) Office Ideas Here are some office ideas for you! How do you like these? The Perfect Office - Lumberjack USB adapter, Polk Woodbourne Speaker and Office Ideas

We've seen some great gadgets and equipment for designers. So many cool stuff, that we could actually assemble infinite perfect office spaces! Every week we'll assemble a perfect office, and we'd like you to help us. What equipment would the perfect office have? We've selected a few cool things for you this week, beginning with the Lumberjack USB adapter, which is quite simple but super cute. There also the Aviiq portable laptop stand to improve ergonomics for you! And there's the Polk Woodbourne speaker for all of those who really dig awesome speakers. Thanks to our sponsors, The Gadget Flow and 7 Gadgets! Lumberjack USB Adapter The Lumberjack is a simple USB adapter from iLoveHandles that helps you charge devices that have USB charging ports. So what’s with all the lumberjack stuff? Well, that’s because it’s encased in wood. This makes it a USB jack that’s made of lumber, which means the name is spot on, albeit a wee bit cheesy. The creators say they were inspired by all the dated wood-enclosed electronics shown in Mad Men and the Wonder Years. Perhaps they should get Sterling Cooper to come up with a better name and an ad campaign that makes the Lumberjack more appealing to the sophisticated crowd that needs USB chargers. You don’t get a USB cable with the adapter, but that shouldn’t be a problem if you’ve got one with the device. (at The Gadget Flow) Picto wall clock Funky 80s graphics for the wall. Georg Christensen and Erling Andersen created the Picto clock in 1984 with the idea of creating an picture of the times. The wall clock is available in four colour combinations. Chalkboard Wall Decal Weekly Calendar The Chalkboard Wall Decal Weekly Calendar from Studio Luka is more of a reminder diary than a calendar. You get seven vinyl wall stickers, along with a strip that says “Things to Remember.” The day of the week is already printed out at the bottom of each sticker. You can use chalk or a chalk ink marker to add reminders for yourself and others. You can wipe it off same as a blackboard. The best part is that when you line them up in a row on a wall, it becomes a part of the décor and makes the wall and room look a whole lot better. These wall decals are ideal for use in your study, as teaching aids in classrooms, and for scrawling dirty limericks in dorm rooms.(at The Gadget Flow) 3P Clock The 3P clock, at frist glance, the 3P clock might appear to be for your bedside table. (at Like Cool) Megaphone Mini The Megaphone Mini is a portable ceramic amplifier brought to you by en&is. The bugle-shaped amplifier is designed to hold your iPhone at one end while enhancing the audio output out the other end. It makes use of the simple laws of physics instead of high-tech electronics. It’s small and compact, and doesn’t need a power source or wires or Bluetooth or anything else that other amplifiers must have. You can put it anywhere because it looks great even as a display piece, and is portable and sturdy enough to carry around in your backpack or bag if you’re on the go. You can take it to the beach or on a picnic, and it’ll be perfectly normal. Nobody will find out that you’re a hopped-up music freak who carries around an amplifier. (at The Gadget Flow) Impossible Instant Lab The Impossible Instant Lab is a throwback to a bygone era where polaroids gave shutterbugs instant gratification. It transforms your iPhone pictures into authentic analog pictures and prints them out before you can say cheese. It’s not a complicated machine that needs training or experience to use, and neither is it a printer spraying ink on paper. All you have to do is select the picture on your iPhone, place it on the lab’s cradle, and press eject. The lab takes a picture of your picture and then develops it using a photochemical process. Why would you want to do this? Why do people buy retro furniture and classic cars? Like polaroids and photo albums, these are some of the simple pleasures of life that have been lost in the rush towards modernity. Aol Offices in Palo Alto, by Studio O+A

AOL has presented us with lots of news to adapt even more to the changes on the online culture. As part of this effort, they also moved to a new office in Palo Alto, California, and brought the architects of Studio O+A to let them fully integrated with the other companies in Silicon Valley. A clean and light space, integrated work areas and a playful use of the Aol logo over color texture, made this new office environment with a web style, if you know what I mean. As the architects say, this concept is in how they treat the materials: "Key to this approach is the concept of “honest materiality”—the embrace of materials and processes that originate in the construction industry and that increasingly provide the finish motifs for modern workplace design. At AOL, for example, oriented strand board (OSB), typically used by contractors to separate spaces on construction sites, was sanded, shaped, and finished to serve as a contemporary accent throughout the complex." © Jasper Sanidad © Jasper Sanidad © Jasper Sanidad © Jasper Sanidad © Jasper Sanidad © Jasper Sanidad © Jasper Sanidad The existing space retained a distinctly 1980s corporate aesthetic: drop ceilings hanging over every office, high cubicles separating employees into tightly defined workstations, dark finishes, and oblique lines. O+A restored the space to a clean, white canvas—exposing the ceilings, stripping the walls to reveal the structure, and generally creating a spatial equivalent to the transparency that AOL was bringing to every aspect of its business. © Jasper Sanidad © Jasper Sanidad © Jasper Sanidad © Jasper Sanidad © Jasper Sanidad © Jasper Sanidad © Jasper Sanidad AOL’s new logo—the company’s initials in a simple white font—can be placed effectively on any colorful background. Those playful backgrounds vary throughout the headquarters and include both abstract patterns and imagery drawn from nature and pop culture. All wall coverings in the space are custom designed. © Jasper Sanidad © Jasper Sanidad © Jasper Sanidad © Jasper Sanidad © Jasper Sanidad © Jasper Sanidad © Jasper Sanidad

Fantastic David Baker Architecture Headquarters

Despite all the beautiful offices are made by architects, not all architects offices are beautiful and creative. Do you know what I mean? Well, look at this office, from David Baker + Partners Architecture , this is a classic example of an architect office, made by architect and very, very creative. The writer of Officesnapshots, Stephen Sear, had the pleasure of visiting this office and take these pictures. I confess that I gave a little jealous, because this place is fantastic. Located in a restored building in San Francisco, CA, is a large space with multiple workspaces and conference areas. "There is a lot of wood, metal, brickwork throughout the space, Which Gives it a great old-warehouse feel. There Is Also a bike storage area in the Back That hold bike in the air, suspended by cabling. In one area of the office, there are ferry models displayed, and in another, the model Creating station", says Stephen. Check out some pictures! DB+P is skilled in navigating the personal, political, and commercial dynamics of bringing new architecture into diverse urban environments. Our work combines social concern with a signature design character, resulting in distinctive, high-quality buildings that foster a strong sense of community. In this way, our work acts as an advocate for better cities, where good architecture only counts if it does good, too. - David Baker + Partners Architects.

New Skype Headquarters, in Palo Alto

Like Skype facilitates communication between us, so it should be their work area, with easy connection. And with this premise they built the new office in Palo Alto, California. A fully renovated space to support more than 250 employees. The project, by Blitz Architecture + Design is tottaly opened and is based in activities areas. The concentration zones (workstation areas) are pushed to the building perimeter and benefit from natural light and lower noise levels. Collaboration zones (meeting rooms, coffee kiosks, white board areas) are centered along main access spines on each level encouraging staff to literally ‘meet in the middle’. Contemplation spaces are interspersed in the form of overlapping casual lounges. Some other words from Blitz about this project: "To support Scrum a variety of environments have been created that facilitate different interactions. A system of mobile whiteboards, or ‘Skype-Its’, is deployed throughout the space to capture ideas as they occur. The resulting workplace is a space that people want to inhabit, and enjoy using. It differentiates Skype from it’s competitors facilitating recruitment and retention." "The space reflects Skype’s spirit of innovation in a highly functional yet creative workplace designed to encourage interaction and spontaneity, as well as meet specific acoustic requirements in support of their extensive use of AV. The project is registered for and seeking LEED Silver certification."

New Autodesk Office in San Francisco

Autodesk is a company that goes back to my college, the sleepless nights working on Autocad, beautiful memories! But today there is not a day of nostalgia, is a day of architecture, and I made this post to show this new office in San Francisco Autodesk, simply amazing. Housed in a historic area of San Francisco and a building with an old structure, the office goes beyond the traditional cube, Autodesk requested something that would encourage an atmosphere of collaboration and creativity. The integration of new with old elements show a modern and serious character of Autodesk. Was maximized natural lighting through large windows as well as to enjoy the beautiful view of the city. Honoring the historic, landmark building the new design highlights the lofted ceilings, original columns, two-story windows, and the space’s inherent industrial feel. The new design is framed by the original structure: sweeping brick arches, newly polished concrete floors, and ceilings now exposed to structure. The New Lance Armstrong Foundation Office

The new headquarters of the Lance Armstrong Foundation is a project to fill your eyes. A restoration made in a former warehouse in Texas, bringing new life to the building and the neighborhood of Austin. Are already memorable all actions and movements made by the foundation, and it was only fair that people who work there helping others have a cute and cozy space. The industrial aspect mixed with wood everywhere created a modern and clean enviroment, and how the areas were distributed shows a certain informality and freedom, perhaps a characteristic of the foundation. The renovated facility, project by Lake Flato Architects, provides office space, meeting rooms, dining facilities, an in-house gymnasium, open-air courtyard, and parking for the staff of 62. Future plans may call for adding a community-based cancer-support program to provide direct services to uninsured and underinsured East Austin residents. Achieved LEED Gold certification. The design breathes new life and energy into both the building and neighborhood. The Exotic Yandex Offices

I love to see how great is the creativity people to assemble the offices of their company, especially when we're talking about internet companies. Take time to see the diversity of environments that Yandex did on their headquarters in, Russia. The Yandex , for those unfamiliar, is a search engine company, in Russia. They managed to mix the elegant, rustic, organization and clutter in one place, somewhat exotic, but at the same time inspiring! I could not know the true size of the entire office, but looking how many different environments, seems to be huge. I wonder also take my laptop and sit down on that orange hammock, do not know if it would flow the work, but it would be relaxing! The Totally Amazing New Campaign Monitor Office

I'm already a big fan and user of Campaign Monitor, the guys managed to build a beautiful and easy to use tool that focuses on using things properly. But beyond that, last week when I saw their new office I was amazed, really, is one of the best places for work that I've ever seen! After software, the most important tool to a hacker is probably his office. Big companies think the function of office space is to express rank. But hackers use their offices for more than that: they use their office as a place to think in. And if you're a technology company, their thoughts are your product. So making hackers work in a noisy, distracting environment is like having a paint factory where the air is full of soot. - Paul Graham, Great Hackers Saying that I would love to work on it would be repetitive, but I need to repeat that to be clear: how I wanted to work in that place! The architects met the needs of the team and managed to make a very cozy space focused on work. Each person has its private office, but a large dining area bring all of them together at least a few times per day, and of course there are some stuff to enjoy even more this place, such as the beautiful ping pong tables and Guitar Hero! All corners of this incredible office make me think again, will I ever have an office like this? The architect also came up with some beautiful joinery that runs the length of the new dining area to house our growing book collection. To satisfy our ping pong obsession he managed to fit in two new championship tables, some custom joinery for bat/ball storage and a touch screen scoring system.
