Star Wars: The Force Awakens

Star Wars: The Force Awakens Noir

Today I am changing a bit of the focus of the posts to focus strictly on the much anticipated launch of Star Wars: The Force Awakens. Opening in theaters here in the US tomorrow, I felt compelled to celebrate the latest chapter in Star Wars history. In lieu of posting regular fan art I had to post about the work that Marko Manev posted which merges another of my passions, Noir style. The artworks are quite inspiring, simple, elegant and of course noir. Marko Manev, born 1985 in Skopje, Macedonia is a conceptual mixed-media artist, graphic designer & illustrator. He graduated in fine arts and has worked as a graphic designer in advertising. Manev has initiated and has taken part in several NGOs and cultural organizations where he worked as a lecturer and an executive director. Also, he has written and illustrated several short story comic books. Manev is an active artist both in the fine art and in the pop-culure tribute art scene. Currently he is working as a freelance designer and illustrator, creates limited edition prints and movie posters For more information about Marko's work check out http://www.markomanev.com/

We're seeing much more female characters under the spotlight these days, and hopefully we're gonna see even more in the future! Among the Jedi, there are very few rocking the Force and displaying some sweet fencing skills with their lightsabers, so it's always great to see artists coming up with these characters. Here you can see some strong female characters with their lightsabers... this pumps me up for the new Star Wars and hopefully we'll find out Rey is the actual Jedi in this story. The man behind these awesome illustrations is Polish artist Wojtek Fus. For more of his amazing work, please visit his portfolio at ArtStation! I hope you enjoy these! Stunning Star Wars Artworks by Kurt Miller

This will be really outdated someday, but I'm really pumped for next December, when Star Wars Episode VII will hit the silver screen. I bet every geek out there is pretty excited about this, and whenever I get to see the Millennium Falcon flying, I tend to smile. Kurt Miller, an American artist, comes up with astonishing illustrations showing air and space battles between Tie Fighters and X-Wings. These are so good I wanna cry. These are so good I wanna fly a X-Wing. Ok, ok... I gotta lower my expectations, otherwise this film will flop. I can't afford that. Anyways, these are a few of the amazing pieces Kurt has done. Unique Pop Fine Art by Limpfish

Unique Pop Fine Art by Limpfish

It's always a great day when you find a real slick set of works like these by artist David Barton, aka Limpfish. These are his take on famous fine art pieces, mixing it up with pop culture elements, like Star Wars and The Simpsons. These are definitely a must have. Yes... you can have these. You may buy them at his shop at Imagekind. Unfortunately for me the worldwide shipping costs more than the print itself, so no "Seurat's Monday Morning in Chicago" for me. But you may buy his prints and visit his portfolio for more information! Show him some love so that he feels the urge to make more, because we NEED more of these!! I hope you like it. Gorgeous Geeky Illustrations by Michael Rogers

Gorgeous Geeky Illustrations by Michael Rogers

Some artists get really famous for some concepts they come up with. Actually, a person might not even actually come up with a concept, but if a certain artwork of that artist gets attention, usually people will say that any other artwork from other artists that come after that is a mere copy. Although it is important to acknowledge original artists, it's a fact that their pieces become inspiration to others. Inspiration is out there, and IMO it's impossible to say that styles are property of people. I say that because many might state that the work of Michael Rogers is a copy of previous artists, like Olly Moss. Michael's pieces are yet another example of a great geeky artist making gorgeous illustrations, and that's what counts. You may even buy some of his prints, which is great! His 'The Walking Dead" pieces are astonishing! Check out his store at Etsy for more! What do you think about many artists following the some concepts and styles? Cheers. ;)

Fantastic Star Wars Illustrations by Terese Nielsen

Star Wars are one of the few subjects that I'm probably never getting tired of. I'm definitely not the biggest fan out there, but I really enjoy the whole culture around it and love how much illustrators are inspired by it. So much art to see. These are the work of Terese Nielsen, an amazing American artist that's been painting for many years now. It's great to see how much Star Wars have been an inspiration for artists everywhere for such a long time. For more of Terese's works, you may visit her personal portfolio, which is definitely worth the visit. I hope you enjoy these! Cheers. ;)

Star Wars Identities - The Exhibition

I've been to very few exhibitions in my life, but there's some that would be worth traveling abroad just to visit, like the Star Wars Identitites Exhibition, which will open in April, in Canada. Sometimes I feel all good events happen in Canada. I'm jealous. The exhibition will debut in April 19th in Montreal and October 27th in Edmonton. Here you can check some of the mind-blowing images that will be displayed there. Some pretty awesome, creative pieces, indeed. For more of it, you must buy tickets at the official site and travel to Canada, but I'm pretty sure it's worth the price of it. I hope you enjoy these! Cheers. ;)

Star Wars Concept Art by Ralph McQuarrie

I find it really sad when I get to know about a great artist only when he or she dies. Unfortunately that happened again in March 3rd when Star Wars concept artist, Ralph McQuarrie, passed away. Born in America in 1929, Ralph was the hand behind the concept art that helped bring life to some of the most famous characters of all times, like Darth Vader and Yoda. Of course that seeing these you'll get to see that the final product, the one we watched on screen, was slightly different from Ralph's concepts, which are great nonetheless. This is a quite long post, by since we're talking about a trilogy, you should understand my motives. He's done many great pieces, and these are only a "few" of them. Don't forget to check Ralph's official site. I hope you enjoy these. Cheers! ;) A New Hope The Empire Strikes Back Return of the Jedi

Outstanding Neon Illustrations by Digimental Studio

One of the biggest influences around Abduzeedo's look is the good old shiny neon. We love it, and it's great to see illustrations with it, like these, made by Digimental Studio. Pretty sweet, I'd say. Digimental Studio is located in London, and they definitely love their neon. These are absolutely awesome, and I really dig the animated ones. Anyways, for more of Digimental's works, you may check their portfolio at Behance. I hope you enjoy these! Cheers. ;)

May the Force of Typography be with you

We've seen many typography works here at Abduzeedo and we sure love when we get to see 2 things we love together, like Typo and Star Wars! That's just the case of the work H-57. These are some good looking Star Wars posters made from characters. Fresh! H-57 is a advertsing agency from Italy with clients from all sorts of medias, like TV, Radio, Print and Web. For more information about them make sure to check out their Web site at http://www.h-57.com/. You will have to practice a little bit of your italian though :)

Minimalist Star Wars Galaxy Posters

I came across this awesome collection of minimalist poster designs from the Star Wars Galaxy and it really inspired me with the simplicity of the design and the complexity of the meaning. These posters were designed by Justin Van Genderen, a freelancer designer/illustrator from Chicago. Check it out!
