Trendy Circular Elements in Design

September 22, 2009

Earlier this month I shared with you guys my love for triangles. Today I wanted to share my love for circles and show you some examples of circular elements in design.

Throwing out shapes in design pieces seems to be all the rage these days. Despite the popularity, it still remains fresh in my eyes and I don't think I could ever get sick of seeing nice illustrations, magazine spreads, posters, etc with circles! I love it! Shapes definitely add something to every composition but I can't quite place my finger on what exactly that is. Either way, I hope you guys enjoy these and you can send me your feedback/suggestions via twitter or facebook! I'd love to hear from you :)

The "Better Than Nothing" poster looks an awful lot like the cover of the book "Ocean of Air" about the atmosphere (http://www.amazon.com/Ocean-Air-Blows-Mysteries-Atmosphere/dp/0151011249).

To quote Banksy, "Most things look better when you put them in a circle."

These are some lovely and inspirational works.

I have to agree with Hybrid, the Simon Page piece is my favorite on the page. And look at all the transparent circles, I don't know how I feel about them. Some are used well, but, and in my opinion of course, it seems like a trendy "go-to" element. I could have just gotten a bad batch of coffee this morning, though.

I agree with Slizzie, the slow image loading stalls enjoyment of the work. Thanks for these great examples nonetheless!

The colorful universe (Simon page) images are great loads of colours and stands out. Whens the squares post, are you going to be doing a post for each of the common shapes?

Very nice works. I like most Simon Page's works.

@Vim: If I continue to see nice images of each shape I might do it. If you have any suggestions or recommendations don't hesitate to send them my way! :)

@imonabduzeedo: There's a tutorial here on Abduzeedo on recreating a piece from Andy Gilmore - http://abduzeedo.com/super-cool-abstract-vectors-illustrator-and-photoshop It's not exactly like the one from Simon Page, but it comes close (and Andy Gilmore's work is awesome!). Oh, and nice name ;)

Simon Page's are fantastic - those circles are simply incredible and amazing - his portfolio should get covered in a separate post - period!
