Trey Ratcliff's Wonderful HDR Images #2

July 07, 2009

A while ago we featured a post about Trey Ratcliff's Wonderful HDR Images. Since our readers really liked the first post and Trey has a lot of incredible new photos at his website, Stuck in Customs, I decided to make a "sequence" of it. I have to say that his work continuous to amaze me... so here is a new selection of Trey Ratcliff's work that I'm pretty sure you will like!!

I liked so much this whole HDR universe that I even tried Trey's HDR tutorial, but as for the result I got, I really need a lot of reading and practicing around the subject to try it again. Another great thing that I just read on Trey's blog is that he announced a book,A World in HDR, which has pieces of his work with extended descriptions, more information about the photos and also some tutorials to help you with your HDR creations.

Thanks again for Trey and all his kindness!! So now, go ahead and enjoy the images! ;)

HDR: The LSD of the 2000's.

Nice, but I'm wondering if sometimes the HDR treatment isn't too much ?

paim07/07/2009

nice pictures, how it works?

In response to Simon H above.....'NO F*ING WAY MAN!'
The HDR is the point. It's the style that separates these images from regular photography. If you want to look at normal photos (and there's plenty out there), then look around. These images are gorgeous and stand out!

LOVE the HDR - But that's me..... ;)

Laxmonster5407/07/2009

Wow these are all great! good work.

HDR used sparingly I can dig, a touch of surreality, but too much and it looks like a videogame environment render, and it's off-putting to me.

With that much heightened detail your composition better be on point, otherwise there's no focus, too much visual noise, imo.

i love HDR photo's i only wish i had a camera and the knowlage to make them :(

MarthaMayhem07/07/2009

Wow he does such a great job with these images without them looking very much like an "HDR" cause usually(from my observations) HDRs come out lookin a bit cheesy.

SL05NED07/08/2009

i like the green car one

wesker07/08/2009

john kirk i think the same ........ that´s the difference between HDR and the other pictures!!!! what a fucking good answer dude !!!!!!

evilkosmoz07/08/2009

of course, Green car one is awesome..!! :)

visual-idiot07/09/2009

i don't think these photos are wonderful, they're oversaturated, unsharp and full of halos...

and i think HDR isn't worth to be used for every motive,,,

look at this: http://visual-idiot.deviantart.com/favourites/#Awesome-HDR-s

visual-idiot07/09/2009

oh..just the blue door is a good one i think...
don't take it personal and don't believe the (hdr) hype :D

Shikiru07/10/2009

Yes you CAN argue about if its sometimes overdone. Especially if people start thinking that this is HDR and nothing else. No. Its HDR over saturated. It's like the guy saw the tonal compressor and said : "al-fuckin-right lets get this the closest to being on drugs!"
I saw a cool tutorial here on Abduzeedo named something like "what hdr was intended to be"..people should take a look at it one more time.
At the end of the day it comes down to personal tastes if you like that nearly psychadelic approach above or the more realistic thing.
Thanks for reading.
