Web Design: Grain Texture
I'm designing my new portfolio, and lately I've been checking many sites to get somekind of reference for inspiration. One of the main style that I've check as a cool trend is the Grain Texture, that can be done really easily in Fireworks. So I've made a list of sites that use this simple, yet awesome texture!

But I also wanted to say, that it's simply doable with noise filter in photoshop also :)

this uses a nice grain effect and a transparent black fading png over the top to top it off :D

That's a really nice texture, any possibility we could see a tutorial to create one or several textures that is heavily used?

Just use noise filter plus opacity.
Does anybody know how to do a great grain texture in Photoshop ? Thx !
You can produce something similar with the noice filter in photoshop on a gray background and then making it black and white and dodge or burn the result.

funny how trends make their way around the web.
tumitu: if you use Photoshop, then filter > noise > add noise and play a bit with the settings.
Remember to set the noise as a pattern, which will save you time in further designs. Select the layer that you want to apply the grain effect, open the layer styles and apply a Pattern Overlay, choosing the pattern you just created. Then play a bit with the opacity and layer blends until it gets the way you want to.
That's it in a nutshell! Of course there are many ways to achieve the effect and this is just one of them. :)

Looking at an overland trip starting in Durban, SA travelling via Mosimbique and into Tanzania. would like to stay costal throughout Mosimbique as diving will be on the 'itinery'.
www.wearedevoted.co.uk use grain really well, its only a holding page at the minute but i've got high hopes for these guys, especially after seeing some of their motion graphics on their vimeo over at www.vimeo.com/wearedevoted
This is a subtle effect that provides a little extra polish to a clean design. I recently used this effect when redesigning my portfolio.
Easiest way to do it is just save a solid color image with the worst jpeg compression possible and BAM done! Plus you have a small file size for web use.
