Monthly Portfolio Inspiration with Semplice - March 2019

Hi! I’m Tobias van Schneider. I’m the co-founder of Semplice, a portfolio tool by designers for designers. We’re teaming up with Abduzeedo to share inspiring design portfolios each month. Here we’ll curate the best online portfolios from motion designers, artists, illustrators, and more – all created from scratch using Semplice.

Web design

ALT Creative, Inc.

ALT Creative, Inc. is the studio of Ash Thorp, whose work appears in Assassin’s Creed, Ghost in the Shell, Ender’s Game and more. Given Ash’s focus on motion and animation, the use of video thumbnail hovers works perfectly on his homepage. This, as well as wide-screen videos sprinkled throughout his case studies, make his portfolio feel cinematic.

Christian Leban

Christian Leban is an Austrian illustrator and designer currently based in Portugal. His portfolio is clean and bold with a distinct black, white and red theme. The large imagery and concise case studies invite you to scroll through all his projects, each of which ends with a tiny illustration “easter egg.”

Louise Mertens

Belgium-based artist and art director, Louise Mertens, creates artwork for clients like Estée Lauder Companies, Levi’s and Komono. From the intro page with its unexpected hover effect to the choice of font and use of white space throughout, Louise’s portfolio has an air of sophistication and confidence that’s fitting for her work.

Nirla mixes and matches Semplice features to present each project category in a unique way. There’s a full-screen cover slider for his art direction projects, a standard grid for his photography and a vertical panel grid for his art. Not to mention the hover animation on his homepage. Somehow, all of it works together for a visually exciting experience.

Andrei Robu

Andrei Robu’s portfolio is packed full of art and color and motion. The navigation serves more like a filter, shuffling between expansive grids for each category. The result is a simple and snappy portfolio that puts the focus on the work.
