DepthCore is as you might already know, one of our favorite collectives out there, and that is because the the quality of the artwork they come up with every new chapter, and fortunately for us, they did it again. DepthCore just released a new chapter called ">MYTHIC in which they feature creations from incredible guys such as Nik Ainley, Justin Maller, Phil Dunne, Craig Shields, João Oliveira and others. This chapter features several stunning contributions from the wonderfully talented Raphael Vincenzi, earning him the Featured Artist nod for this collection; click here to peruse the traditional interview. This Chapter is also notable for the abundance of it's collaborations, including several pairings never before seen - make sure to explore thoroughly to discover these unusual visual experiments. One of our most thematic relevant Chapters ever, 'MYTHIC' is the result of five months of careful planning, research and stylistic experimentation from the collective. The slow creative process has resulted in a Chapter that has been meticulously crafted, workshopped from sketches through to completed pieces, thoroughly taking advantage of the collaborative collective experience. Several of the pieces presented in this collection were composed over the course of several months, taking on board feedback from our artist base at each stage of completion to try and fully realize their full potential, and ultimately create a Chapter that is carefully considered, conceptualized and executed. SlashTHREE, one of our favorite collectives out there has a new exhibition, their 14th to be more precise, and it's called “Le Cirque Des Couleurs”. The theme invited the artists to not only to explore their brighter and more vibrant side but also to create free flowing, abnormal, 'circus' like imagery. They also created massive typographical collaboration in which volunteers from the collective created pieces of art based around a letter of their choosing, which is called “Le Grand Cirque Des Couleurs”. The featured artists for the “Le Cirque Des Couleurs” was the mighty Erik Schumacher a Physics student from Germany and a Photoshop crazy artist in his free time. You can read the whole interview with Erik Shumacher by Saad Moosajee here. I simply love digital portraits... they can be drawings, paintings & airbrushing or whatever other technique you may like. I think it's pretty impressive the talent that some artists have on creating digital portraits that are amazing. Amazing for its realism, perfection, lines or even for its details. Maybe I like digital portraits so much because I totally suck drawing and I can only imagine people actually doing portraits so realistic that you may be confused if you are looking for a real photo or not. And I have to say I like those very realistic digital portraits and I also like those with a traditional painting look, those who are a mix of drawing and something else are also cool. Ok, enough said, the thing is that I decided to make this selection of digital portraits to show you and I hope you enjoy it! And don't forget to visit each artist page, they are all at deviantART. thesoulcanwait binadog orgo glacierfusion humbugle artcova padisio betocampos hazelong whtmnk alessioradice paul915 lindalisa bikerscout calaymo strahan landeroc
The last Wallpaper of the Week was one of Saad Moosajee designs. Saad is a young self-taught freelancer illustrator and Art Director from England but currently living in Denver, CO, United States. His work has been exhibited in multiple galleries and published in a multitude of magazines and books. He has also served as the Creative Director of slashTHREE.com for over 2 years, and is also a member of The Keystone Design Union. Saad is currently represented by the Anja Wiroth Agency, but is still seeking representation in other countries. For any inquiry please contact email@example.com Living is Love - Advanced Photoshop Magazine Typographic illustration & 12 step tutorial commissioned by Imagine Publishing for Advanced Photoshop Magazine Masterclass, featured in issue #66. The illustration is centered around the concept & phrase Living Is Loving. A Moment Of Serenity - Your-Majesty Advertising Agency Wallpaper Illustration commissioned by Your-Majesty advertising agency for their mid-evil themed wallpaper/screensaver project, Art Direction was provided by Jens Karlsson. Rich Soil Lion - Rich Soil Clothing The first of 2 tee shirt illustrations I was asked to create for Los Angeles Lakers player Lamar Odom's clothing line, Rich Soil. Art Direction was provided by Jonathan Garcia. I use roughly 3 programs; Photoshop, Cinema 4D and Poser occasionally. I didn't know any decent tutorial sites when I started so as far as learning the technical aspects of the programs I would just keep trying artistically. I also learned a lot by looking at surrealist & futuristic painters work like H.R Giger & Salvador Dali. Trinity - Advanced Photoshop Magazine Artwork created for the Advanced Photoshop Magazine cover contest, the brief was only to use one of the provided stocks. The image was not a selected winner, but did lead to the commission of the illustration 'Living Is Loving'. Twenty Ten - Self Initiated Self initiated Collaboration with Russian artist Magomed Dovjenko of iammago.com, created as a tribute to the year. Machina - The KDU The second promotional illustration I created upon joining the Keystone Design Union, a international collective that houses some of worlds finest artists. Crouching Tiger, Hidden Bottle - Tiger Beer Artwork I created for Tiger Beers global exhibition Tiger Translate. The exhibition was focused around the concept of balance, and was curated by Kult.Sg. I am still pretty influenced by surrealists like Dali and Magritte but less than I was before. These days I get more inspired by my surroundings, especially tagging & graffiti and artists like Banksy. Some time ago I was looking for some cool digital works at DeviantART (my favorite spot to check out great art), and I ran into the amazing work of a designer called Uribaani. He makes some excellent pieces, really worth taking a look. For more of his great work, you should seriously visit his portfolio at DA and show him some love, because he gently gave us permission to post his work here. I hope you enjoy these. Cheers! ;)
Tom Veiga is a 28 years old art director from Curitiba - Brazil that is completely crazy about design, art, waves and the surf culture. After years trying all kinds of art and techniques to find his own style, Tom decided to give digital art a try and loved the result. Since then he doesn't go anywhere without paper and pen, so he can capture his ideas in the instant they happen to digitalize them later. Tom Veiga's work was introduce to us by one of our readers and Tom's friend, Felipe Mendes. He sent an e-mail suggesting Tom's work and we really liked. Besides being a surf lover myself, I liked the style of his work. The retro look, the shapes, the lines and the colors really got me, so I decided to talk to Tom to present a bit more about him and his work here for you guys. So here goes the selection I made from the Wave Series. To check out the whole collection go to seriewaves.com. I hope you like he images as much as I did! :) My name is Tom Veiga and I have 28 years old. I already worked for some agencies here in Curitiba and around. I worked for midiaweb, for Chleba from Sao Paulo and for the last two years I've been working at Midiadigital in Curitiba. I simply love waves, design and the surf culture. And from this mix between my work as a designer and my passion for surf, the idea of the Wave Series was born in the beginning of 2009. The series shows art collections inspired by the feelings that the ocean breeze, the sun heat and the waves movements transmit to us. I really believe that God was really inspired when He designed the waves... everything turned out perfectly. Each wave has a color and a unique style, all of that inspired me to reflect that beauty throughout design. My inspiration come from a trip to beach with my family, a dvd, a surf magazine or from places that I wan't to visit, as the arts I made from Jbay, Mentawai and Sunset. Today I don't go anywhere without paper and pen, so when I have an idea I can draw it immediately and when I get home I digitalize it, work on illustrator to redraw it and finalize it on photoshop. The name Waves Series came from the series idea, something continuous, always in movement. A surfer dreams with the perfect series of waves and my collection has the same concept and idea. The collection is not closed, it's something that is always in motion, because there is always a swell of creativity coming...
I bumped into Zhuzhu's work while browsing around deviantART and his pieces got my attention. Zhuzhu is an artist living in Shanghai, China, with a background in watercolor and traditional art techniques. He has specialized in digital painting since 2002, using Corel Painter and Adobe Photoshop. He is currently teaching at the China Academy of Art, Shanghai Institute of Design Training Centre and he also wrote two books on digital painting techniques, and several tutorials. Zhu is my last name, Hai Bo is my first name, but in Chinese you should call me Zhu Hai Bo. As you will be able to see here, Zhuzhu has pieces from different styles, some of them are classic, innocent and beautiful, other are controversial and intriguing. It's always nice to see different points of view of a same artist! Anyway, I made this selection from some of his work and you can also check out his DA page for further images. Enjoy the images! :)
A while ago I wrote a post showing you The Seductive Images from Alexia Sinclair. Today I will show you a video she sent us showing a case study/behind the scenes of her Campaign for the NZ Opera. It's always very nice to receive news from the artists we present here... this way we can keep contact with them and can keep you posted about what their are doing! So once again, thanks Alexia for sending us this material... and for our readers, sit back and enjoy the video. :) Earlier this year I was commissioned to shoot the 2010 campaign imagery for New Zealand Opera's upcoming performances.
