FS Logo Design Process - Symbol

FS Logo Design Process - Symbol

After over 4 years I decided to start working on a new personal site. The last time I made updates was back in 2009 and since then I haven't been paying too much attention to it, however I feel it's time for me to try some different things with it in terms of web design, responsive, mobile first and other such trends. The first thing I needed of course was a logo. Today, I share with you the creative process behind the logo. Inspiration/References The logo is inspired by a college team logo, I wanted it to have this reference because the idea is that the site will be a creative laboratory of things I want to learn and experiment within the realm of HTML, CSS and Javascript. Another reference is the San Francisco Giants logo, I love the angularity and the way the letters have been super imposed. Sketches Some explorations for fun Illustrator Once I had some sketches I started creating the digital version. The logo is basically made of rectangles and triangles and as you can see the images below, I started adding basic shapes and improving upon them. Grid Negative space shadows Using the same triangles from the corners of the "S", I created basic shadows, and then made them as negative space. Compositions Colors Final Symbol After an afternoon of fun I ended up with a nice symbol, very aligned with the design principles I had in mind, especially to have the look and feel of a college sports team. I still want to make some optical adjustments to make sure the proportions are right. The next step then will be to show you the web site :)

Vikings - Visual Identity

Vikings - Visual Identity

Last weekend I watched one episode of the show called Vikings on the History Channel. The series seems to be really cool, especially in terms of image and visuals. Another thing that really caught my attention was the logo, it is amazing, then today browsing Behance I found a post about the art behind the logo and some images. The work was done by Platige, a super cool studio from Warsaw, Poland. Vikings follows the adventures of Ragnar Lothbrok the greatest hero of his age. The series tells the sagas of Ragnar's band of Viking brothers and his family, as he rises to become King of the Viking tribes. Concept We wanted the teaser to be mysterious and monumental at the same time. The key point was the idea of using one shot transition from micro to makro scale which helped to emphesise how smoothly all the elements harmoize in soul of every Viking. Final stills Our task was to create a logo that would show the spirit of the Vikings' culture in its several main elements. In one symbol we needed to capture the multiple dimension of the nation. At the same time in the teaser we had to focus on how all the elements in logo are brought to life and coexist in Vikings' everyday life. About Platige Platige is a vehicle for creative endeavors specializing in designing CG imagery, 3D animation, and digital special effects. At Platige, we combine film and advertising work with a strong passion for art, education, and entertainment. The company attracts and creates revolutionary ideas and innovations.

VARIG Logo Redesign

VARIG Logo Redesign

The most amazing thing about being a designer today is the possibility to create, distribute and get feedback on projects very quickly. That's a huge motivator, especially for personal projects where we have much more creative freedom to explore and learn. Case in point, the VARIG Logo Redesign from Leo Porto. VARIG was the biggest and most important airline in Brazil from the 60s to the 90s. It was founded in 1927 in Porto Alegre, my hometown. I remember drawing its logo in my school books and imagining flying with them. The logo was very classy, a golden compass. In the early 2000 the company declared bankruptcy and was acquired by another airline. Today we carry only the memories of the golden age of aviation. Leo Porto decided to create his own redesign of the brand and he does a great job of bringing back the style of the mid-century modern era. Varig Logos VARIG was the first airline founded in Brazil, in 1927. From 1965 until 1990 it was Brazil’s leading and almost only international airline. In 2005, Varig went into judicial reorganisation, and in 2006 it was split into two companies. Varig was my favorite airline until it closed for good in 2007. If Varig were to come back as the number one airline in Brazil like it once was, it would have to go through a complete rembranding. The following pages cointain my view of what Varig should look like if it came back to the market. Rebrand For more information visit http://leoporto.com/
