Framer brings Prototyping to the Web

Framer (www.framer.com), maker of the popular desktop interactive design tool, today announces the launch of its new browser-based prototyping platform, Framer Web. Given that today’s product experiences require the use of animations, transitions, and real data, designers require a better tool that helps them validate with real users without having to build the app. Framer Web services this need by making it fast and easy to visually design hyper-realistic prototypes, without needing to code. I can create a prototype and collaborate with colleagues from across the country

“Every product department understands the value of prototyping today, from allowing designers to communicate complex ideas to user testing designs prior to development. But not every designer is prototyping yet, simply because it can take too much time and technical effort. Framer Web solves this by making it easy to turn existing designs into interactive prototypes, without code. We’ve brought prototyping to the browser and made it easier than ever to create a prototype and just share a link for feedback,” said Framer’s cofounder Koen Bok.

Framer’s recent launch of a Figma importer also allows for more open collaboration between visual design and prototyping. Customers of both companies can now finish a visual design in Figma and then import it to Framer to add interactivity. This is as easy as using Framer's prototyping Insert Menu to replace static elements with pre-made interactive components, automatically turning a flat design into a high-fidelity prototype. Framer also integrates with Sketch.

Customers such as Spotify, Facebook, and Atlassian were early adopters of Framer Web in beta. Senior Product Designer at Atlassian, Ee Venn Soh, shared his thoughts, “Framer Web makes it really easy to share prototypes with teammates and stakeholders. The ability to quickly iterate between designers and developers has greatly reduced previous friction to building prototypes. It has effectively shortened the time it takes to put a full-blown experience in someone's hand.”

Gisselle Abinader, a Senior UX Designer at Huffpost shared that Framer Web has allowed for new levels of collaboration during remote working, “I can create a prototype and collaborate with colleagues from across the country, which is crucial to sharing high-quality prototypes with partners and stakeholders.”

prototyping,
minus the code.

The tool is ideal for enterprise teams because it allows for easy iteration and collaboration among product teammates. By simply sharing a project link, designers can invite collaborators to leave feedback on specific parts of a prototype or allow developers to work directly in their files. At any point, designers can also use the share panel to user test their prototypes or present ideas in high-fidelity and on any device. Additional features allow you to:

  • Use interactive tools to design conditional transitions between screens, with customizable high fidelity animations.
  • Avoid prototyping during the implementation phase and having to change application architecture midway.
  • Export anything for use in production, from colors, margins and static values to frame-by-frame animations powered by our popular production animation library, Framer Motion.
  • Collaborate with peers, stakeholders and share high quality presentations with your PM or the CEO using a simple link.
