We often see some poor designed concept art around the web, but in the other way, there are some amazing artists doing outstanding pieces, like Nate Hallinan, an concept artist that has done some great pieces for a bunch of games.

I didn't know Hallinan until know, and actually don't know if he's well known, but one of the most amazing pieces of his is his Smurf concept, which he explains beautifully in his portfolio.
