Zalgiris, a cornerstone of Lithuania's basketball heritage, has redefined its visual identity with a fresh rebrand by &ANDSTUDIO. With a legacy spanning 80 years, Zalgiris has been more than just a basketball team; it is a symbol of tradition and ambition, deeply rooted in the hearts of its fans.
The need for a rebrand stemmed from the challenges of adapting the old logo, which was not designed for the digital era. Zalgiris required a modern logo that retained its historical essence while being versatile across various digital platforms.
The rebranding effort maintained the iconic green and white colors and checkerboard patterns, encapsulated in a shield shape. This modernized design features a sleek ball and hoop, symbolizing the club's dedication to basketball and future victories. Additionally, the new logo includes the year of the club's establishment, 1944, honoring its long-standing history.
A notable addition to the rebrand is the custom font, Zalgiris Sans. Inspired by the club's passionate supporters, this font embodies Zalgiris's fighting spirit and complements the updated logo. The minimalist approach not only modernizes the brand but also keeps the essence of Zalgiris alive.
The impact of the new branding has been substantial. It has generated over 5,000,000 direct impressions and garnered mentions in more than 30 media outlets, with a media value exceeding €100,000. This widespread recognition has led to a doubling of year-over-year views on BC Zalgiris Kaunas’s social media channels. Merchandise sales have surged by 110% year-over-year, and ticket sales have reached unprecedented heights with 300,000 fans attending games, marking a 10% increase YoY. Notably, all 13 EuroLeague games held this season have sold out, highlighting the fans' unwavering support.
