French design is always front of mind at Neal Feay Studio, and I’ve personally been fortunate enough to spend significant time in Paris with some of the more exciting minds working in that city today,” comments Alex Rasmussen of Neal Feay Studio. “When we created the Cloth Console, it was to reset preconceptions and showcase what anodized aluminum can do as an art form in high design and fashion. Neal Feay Studio’s goal was to create this gorgeous, elegant, flowing piece that was ultimately quite versatile in its use. To say we succeeded with Cloth Console would be an understatement. There’s this fluidity to the Cloth Console that’s really quite remarkable.
The new Cloth Console is created at Neal Feay Studio using the finest CAD/CAM technology. The process begins with single ¾-inch-thick block of tempered 6061-T6 aluminum that weighs 123 pounds. A 5-axis CNC mill machines the Cloth Console’s profile from the solid block of aluminum. After the 30”w x 37.75”h x 11.1”d, 35-pound console is formed, Neal Feay Studio offers a choice of refined finishes. Clients interested in retaining a distinctly metallic look can opt for a polished or brushed aluminum finish. Those who prefer a softer, fabric-like effect can opt to choose from an unlimited palette of durable anodized hues that can match nearly any color. (Clients are encouraged to visit Neal Feay’s Santa Barbara headquarters and choose their preferred finish in person.) Also, optional active lighting can be added to turn the console into a floor-standing sconce.
