The "Ball" is a Minimalist Take on the Ergonomic Mouse

Osay Imarhiagbe shared a really interesting industrial design project titled The Ball. The product  is a home accessory that reimagines the form and function of a traditional computer input device.

Created with ergonomics in mind, Ball features a unique spherical design that is comfortable to hold. Covered in a soft-touch silicone, the rounded surface allows for easy grip and elevates the hand- relieving pressure on the wrist when in use on a desk. The circular bumper underneath provides easy maneuverability in all directions. The Ball features a symmetrical design that makes it accessible for both left and right handed users, and comes in a selection of colors to suit a wide variety of personal tastes. The Ball also features a rechargeable battery and wireless connectivity for maximum portability.

While the Ball is ideal for use as a computer mouse, it can also be used as a television remote or music controller. The scroll wheel provides an easy way to navigate through a playlist or show list, with a simple press on the wheel to select the highlighted list item. The left and right buttons can be programmed to navigate forwards or backwards, and a long press on the scroll wheel activates an internal microphone for voice input.

The Ball was borne out of a challenge to imagine the future of workplace accessories as they become more commonplace in the home. Its form and adaptability speaks to the shrinking distinction between work and home life, and the need for commonly used tools to be adaptive to multiple use cases.
