About a year ago, we went to the international car launch of LYNK & CO in Berlin, Germany. They are now releasing their first car in China, the Model 01 (shown in the gallery). Designed and engineered in Sweden, the Model 01 went to pre-sale on November 17th. 6000 cars were sold in less than three minutes, this is the fastest selling SUV in the World. Bringing their brand with connectivity with a sharing function and the world’s first in-car share button, to wireless charging and a dedicated LYNK & CO apps store. In their words LYNK & CO has abandoned the traditional automotive concept of base models, entry points and endless options lists. Inspired by fashion and technology, trim levels and optional extras have been replaced with a simple selection of fully equipped, one price collections: We announced the birth of Lynk & Co almost exactly one year ago. Now, just 12 months later, we start sales of our connected and shareable 01 SUV in record fashion. Online we have replicated the in-store experience and simplicity of choice with our unique ‘explorator’ carousel. Just stop on the car you like and subscribe online – it’s as simple as that, as Chinese customers have proven during our pre-sale event. Designed and engineered by an international team in Gothenburg, Sweden, Lynk & Co has a European heart and soul, and a refreshing approach to the automotive sector as a new urban mobility brand. Personalised services, an open API (Application Programming Interface – the first in automotive to be ‘open’), unrivalled connectivity, vehicle sharing, ecommerce, simple, subscription-based ownership, and the first dedicated app store for cars – these are the key offerings of Lynk & Co. Back in October, we covered the LYNK & CO launch in Berlin for the reveal of their Model 01; that will hit the market later this year, starting in China followed by Europe and USA in 2019. Today at the Shanghai International Auto Show, they are taking it one step closer to launch by unveiling the all-new 03 concept. A bold, mid-size and sporty sedan with a classic look that will feature free connectivity and lifetime product warranty for all the other cars including this concept. This model, as well as all the following LYNK & CO cars, is based around connectivity. Customers will find a range of connected technologies on offer in the vehicles, all aimed at making life easier. All models come with a large central touchscreen and telematics systems that are always connected to the internet and the car’s own cloud. The LYNK & CO brand will also provide its users with personalized services, an open API, unrivalled connectivity with vehicle sharing at its heart, e-commerce, and the first dedicated app store for cars. Over the course of the next 12 to 24 months, a new range of premium, state-of-the-art cars at the most accessible of price points will be introduced, with the aim of challenging and redesigning the way in which automotive products are bought, owned and consumed across the world. The key aim of LYNK & CO is to enrich and simplify vehicle ownership through connectivity, e-commerce and by addressing the needs and preferences of a new global generation of customers. O3 Concept We started with some clear defining ambitions: to look solid, have an imposing presence and to make a striking visual impression. What I particularly like about LYNK & CO philosophy, approach and business model are the fact that is more than just a car. There’s a definitive mindset behind this brand to be wide open as an open source to creation and collaboration. Some of us might think that CO from LYNK & CO would mean company but it actually means Co:operation, Co:mmunity and Co:nnection. We gotta that play of words! That being said, the car itself would have connectivity features like: Shareable Locks (meaning there will be no key), Start your car from your phone and all to be intended into what they called: Share Mode. I am pretty sure as being an open source, there will be more cool features coming from third parties. As we are well-aware that being giving freedom is an open door to greater things. Some Words While other car brands struggle with their digital transformation, our brand is born digital. The lack of legacy systems and the ability to build solutions in the cloud enables us to depart from the old model of car sales and service to bring the customer seamlessly through an omnichannel platform, with intuitive interaction at every touchpoint – from researching and purchase and all the way through the owning, sharing, serving and re-selling of a car - David Green, Chief Digital Officer of LYNK & CO. LYNK & CO sets out from the start to be open to outside innovation and aims to be the first organisation in the world to leverage a complete commercial platform, in order to bring innovative applications and services to the customer. LYNK & CO have collaborated closely with Microsoft and Alibaba to build a whole new digital customer infrastructure for the car industry with new digital order, supply, sales and CRM systems and custom applications for user interaction. Ericsson and LYNK & CO have teamed up to create the latest car connectivity cloud. The digital platform will feature an open API and is entended to instigate for endless opportunities to personalize, enriche and expand the automobile experience. Share model. An innovation unique to LYNK & CO car models are shareable locks. Physical locks will only be needed as a backup for a LYNK & CO car. Both open and start is done via Radio Frequency Identity and digital encryption. As a result, it is possible for anyone to register for a LYNK & CO identity which will entitle them to a digital lock. Owners of LYNK & CO cars will be able to add additional locks to their cars, enabling friends, family or service staff to drive their car. To demonstrate this functionality, LYNK & CO have invented a share mode. A button which enables the owner to make their car available to use for a specific time. This could enable people in an apartment block to share a number of cars instead of needing one car each or for an owner to generate rental income. Requests, payments and all customer relations will be seamlessly managed in LYNK & CO’s digital platform.
