Microbots — motion design

Microbots is a personal project Arran Bish has been working on in my spare time over the past few months. The narrative follows a building of simple moving structures which form complexity in a playful, dynamic way – as if they were working together, to create something bigger and better.

Initial development began with exploring dynamic springs and connectors in Cinema4D. This was particularly challenging because you never quite know what result you’ll end up with, so it is a case of tweaking the physics parameters, with much trial and error.

Many different camera moves and unique compositions were also explored throughout the process. All the rendering was done in Redshift with compositing and final grading done in After Effects.
